Choose product settings in SeroPOS

The Product tab of Business Settings decides which fields appear when you add products: SKU prefix, expiry dates, brands, categories, sub-units, racks and warranties. Open Settings › Setting (/business/settings), click Product, tick the options your catalogue needs and click Update Settings. Turning off a feature you don't use keeps the product form shorter for your staff.

Steps

  1. Open the Business Settings page. In the back office sidebar, open Settings and click Setting. This is the Business Settings page at /business/settings, with its tabs down the left and a search box at the top.
  2. Click the Product tab. Product is the fourth tab in the list on the left.
  3. Set a SKU prefix. Type a short SKU prefix, for example SP-. Products you add without typing a SKU get an automatic SKU that starts with it.
  4. Turn on product expiry if you need it. Tick Enable Product Expiry, then choose Add item expiry to type expiry dates directly, or Add manufacturing date & expiry period to have SeroPOS work out the date.
  5. Choose what happens on expiry. Under On Product Expiry pick Keep Selling, or Stop Selling n days before and enter the number of days.
  6. Pick the catalogue fields. Tick Enable Brands, Enable Categories, Enable Sub-Categories and Enable Price & Tax info as needed, and choose a Default Unit for new products.
  7. Turn on sub-units, racks and warranties. Tick Enable Sub Units to sell one product in more than one unit. Tick Enable Racks, Enable Row and Enable Position to record where stock sits in each location, and Enable Warranty to attach warranties to products.
  8. Click Update Settings. Click Update Settings at the bottom of the page. Every tab on this page saves together, so finish any other tab you changed before you click.

Who needs which option

Grocery, pharmacy and deli shops usually want product expiry with Stop Selling a few days before, so expired lines can't be rung up. Hardware and electronics stores tend to use warranties and racks. A café or restaurant can often leave expiry, racks and warranties off.

Options you turn off are hidden from the product form; they aren't deleted. Turn one back on and the field returns.

Frequently asked questions

What does Stop Selling n days before do?

When product expiry is on and you choose Stop Selling n days before, stock that is within that many days of its expiry date can no longer be sold. Enter 0 to stop selling only on the expiry date itself. Keep Selling lets expired stock be sold, and the dashboard can still warn you about it.

Why can't I see brands or racks on the product form?

Those fields only appear when they are switched on. Open Settings › Setting, click Product and tick Enable Brands or Enable Racks, then click Update Settings. Reload the product screen and the fields will show.
