Two products, one family

SeroPOS and SeroBooks are separate products that can be bought on their own or together. SeroPOS is the point of sale for restaurants and shops, with its own back office for products, stock, purchases and reports. SeroBooks is full accounting software for product businesses, with invoicing, bills, banking, payroll and year-end close.

SeroBooks grew out of SeroPOS, which is why they fit together well. A business that uses both works from one account, so the products, customers and sales from the till are the same records the accounts are built on. There is no export file to send between them. Reports in both products start from the same numbers.

How the integration works

SeroPOS and SeroBooks run on the same platform, so a business that uses both has one account, one set of products and customers, and one ledger. When a sale, a return, a customer payment, a purchase, a purchase return or an expense is saved in SeroPOS, it is written to the general ledger as a double-entry journal at that moment, on the server. There is no nightly sync and no file to export.

Each amount lands in the account your posting map names, so sales revenue, sales tax payable, receivables, inventory and cost of goods each go where your chart of accounts says. A journal must balance to the cent or nothing posts, and the failure is logged for you to fix, so the ledger never quietly absorbs a difference. Editing a sale replaces its journal instead of adding a second one, which keeps the books right when a bill is corrected after the fact.

The result is a trial balance, profit and loss, balance sheet and sales tax return built from the same numbers your daily sales report shows. Your accountant can work in the books under their own sign-in, while the till keeps selling.

What SeroBooks covers

On the selling side, SeroBooks handles invoices, estimates and quotes, sales orders, credit notes, customer statements, receivables, price lists, counter sales and batch invoices. On the buying side, it covers purchase orders, goods received, bills, purchase returns, supplier payment runs and cheque printing, plus turning a photo of a receipt or invoice into a bill.

Banking includes bank reconciliation, CSV bank imports with rules, deposits, recurring and memorized transactions, budgets and a cash-flow projector. The books side has fixed assets with CCA and MACRS schedules, period locks, an audit trail, a Sales Tax Centre for returns, projects and job costing, multi-company, and more than 160 built-in reports with a custom report builder.

  • Sell and get paid: invoices, quotes, sales orders, statements
  • Buy and owe: purchase orders, bills, payment runs, cheques
  • Inventory: serials, batches, bins, valuation, assemblies
  • Banking: reconciliation, bank imports with rules, deposits
  • Books: ledger, fixed assets, year-end close, sales tax returns

Meet Maya

Maya is the AI employee inside SeroBooks. She knows your sales, stock, prices and money, and answers questions about them in plain language, such as which products are running low or how this month compares with last. She can send you a morning briefing by email or text, so the numbers are waiting when you start the day.

Maya can also draft work for you, such as purchase orders, reorder points and promotions. Nothing she drafts is carried out until a person approves it, every action is recorded in an audit trail, and an owner can switch her off with one setting. Your business data is not used to train AI models.

Leaving QuickBooks Desktop

Many SeroBooks customers are moving off QuickBooks Desktop. SeroBooks offers a desktop-style workspace with the menus QuickBooks Desktop users already know, and a QuickBooks Desktop migration that can run as a dry run first, so you see what will come across before anything is committed. Your accountant can review the dry run before you switch.

SeroPOS customers who want to stay on QuickBooks can do that too: SeroPOS connects to QuickBooks Desktop and to QuickBooks Online. SeroBooks is for the businesses that want their accounting in the same family as their till. Either way, your till, menu and reports stay the same, and you can move to SeroBooks later if your business outgrows a separate accounting package.

Where SeroBooks runs

SeroBooks has native apps for Windows, macOS and Android, and a web version, all on the same books. Roles and permissions are enforced on the server, so a cashier, a buyer and an outside accountant each see only what their role allows. Accounting practices get free seats to work on their clients' books.

SeroBooks is sold on its own site, serobooks.app, with its own plans and a 14-day free trial; visit serobooks.app to see the plans or start a trial. If you already run SeroPOS and want to try it, ask us and we will help you link the two. Your SeroPOS plan and your SeroBooks plan are billed separately, so you can add or drop either one without affecting the other.

Frequently asked questions

What is SeroBooks?

SeroBooks is our sister accounting product for small and mid-sized product businesses in Canada and the United States. It covers invoicing, purchasing, inventory, banking, payroll in the Pro plan, sales tax and year-end on one double-entry ledger, and it includes Maya, an AI employee that drafts work for your approval.

Do I need SeroBooks to use SeroPOS?

No. SeroPOS has its own back office with products, stock, purchases, expenses and more than thirty reports, including profit and loss, a balance sheet and a trial balance. It also connects to QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online. SeroBooks is for businesses that want full accounting, payroll and banking in the same family as their till.

How do SeroPOS and SeroBooks work together?

They share one account and one set of records. Every sale, refund, payment, purchase and expense saved in SeroPOS posts to the SeroBooks double-entry ledger at once, into the accounts your posting map names, and a journal that does not balance to the cent is not posted. There is nothing to export or sync. Contact us to link the two products for your business.

What does Maya do in SeroBooks?

Maya answers questions about your sales, stock, prices and money, sends daily or weekly briefings, and drafts work such as purchase orders, reorder points and promotions. She never carries out an action without your approval, every action is audited, and you can switch her off. Your data is not used to train AI models.

Is SeroBooks a QuickBooks Desktop alternative?

It is built for that move. SeroBooks has a desktop-style workspace with familiar QuickBooks Desktop menus, a QuickBooks Desktop migration with a dry run, and Canadian sales tax, payroll and year-end features. It runs on Windows, macOS, Android and the web, with plans and a 14-day free trial at serobooks.app.

Where do I sign up for SeroBooks?

At serobooks.app, which has the plans and a 14-day free trial. If you already run SeroPOS, contact us after you sign up and we will link your SeroBooks company to your SeroPOS business so the till posts straight to your books.
