POS for liquor stores

A bottle shop sells the same wine as a single bottle, a six-pack or a full case, often to the same customer in one visit. SeroPOS keeps those units in one stock count and moves inventory between your stores when one runs short.

What you get

Liquor stores in SeroPOS

Bottles and cases

Set a base unit such as Bottle and a sub-unit such as Case of 12, and sell either while stock stays in bottles.

Scan every barcode

Scan UPC and EAN barcodes into the till with a USB scanner or the camera, and an exact match adds the item.

Stock transfers

Move stock from one store to another with a transfer that records the date, quantities and status.

Case and mix discounts

Automatic discount rules apply a percentage or fixed discount to a brand or category for the dates you choose.

Stock value

The Stock Report shows what is on the shelf by category and location, valued at cost and at selling price.

Pay-outs and shifts

Record pay-outs from the till and close each shift with a counted drawer.

Singles, six-packs and cases

Units and sub-units are made for liquor stock. Create Bottle as the base unit and add Case as a sub-unit made of 12 bottles, or Can with a 24-pack. Receive purchases by the case at the case cost and sell by the bottle at the till; stock is always counted in the base unit, so a sold case takes 12 bottles off the shelf count.

If a six-pack has its own barcode and price, set it up as a separate product or a variation, so it scans at the pack price. Product variations also handle sizes such as 375 ml, 750 ml and 1.14 L under one product name, each with its own SKU, barcode and price.

Scanning and the counter

Most bottles carry a UPC or EAN-13 code. Scan into the product search with a USB or keyboard-wedge scanner and SeroPOS adds the matching item; scan again to add another. Turn on Retail Mode on the till for shop wording and a single New Sale button, with restaurant screens hidden.

There is no built-in age prompt or ID scanner, so staff check ID as they do now. Card payments go straight to an integrated Global Payments, Moneris or Gravity Payments terminal. Cash Pay Out records money taken from the drawer for a delivery driver or a deposit refund, with a note and a printed slip.

Moving stock between stores

When the downtown store runs out of a popular rosé and the other location has three cases, create a stock transfer in the back office. Choose the from and to locations, add the products and quantities, add any shipping charge and set the status. Once it is Completed, stock moves and the transfer can't be edited, which keeps the record honest.

The Stock Report filters by location, category and brand, so you can see where stock sits before you reorder. Users can be limited to their own store's location, and each location has its own invoice layout, receipt settings and payment methods. A product can also be limited to the locations that carry it, so a store-only import doesn't clutter the other till.

Pricing, promotions and margins

Discount rules apply a fixed or percentage discount to chosen products, a brand or a category, at selected locations, between a start and end date. Use them for a monthly feature or a brand promotion without changing the regular price. Selling price groups give a separate price list for licensees or event customers if you sell to the trade.

The Stock Report values your inventory at purchase price and at selling price, with potential profit and margin by category. Profit / Loss breaks results down by product, brand, category and location, and the Trending Products report shows which labels move fastest in a date range. Use it before you reorder, so cash isn't tied up in slow wines.

Frequently asked questions

Can a liquor store POS sell by the bottle and by the case?

Yes. Set up a base unit such as Bottle and a sub-unit such as Case made of 12 bottles. You can buy and sell in either unit, and stock is counted in bottles, so selling a case reduces the count by twelve.

Does SeroPOS check ID for alcohol sales?

No. SeroPOS has no age prompt or ID scanner, so staff follow your usual ID checks at the counter. Everything else about the sale, including scanning, discounts and integrated card payments, works as normal. Because staff are the check, train new cashiers on your ID policy and limit discounts and refunds by role.

Can I transfer stock between my liquor stores?

Yes. A stock transfer moves products from one location to another with a date, reference, status, quantities and an optional shipping charge. When the status is Completed, stock leaves one store and arrives at the other, and the transfer can be printed for the driver.

Can I give a discount on mixed cases?

Discount rules apply to chosen products, a brand or a category for a set period, so you can discount a category of wine automatically. There is no rule that counts mixed bottles toward a case quantity, so a mixed-case price is applied with a manual discount at the till.

How much does SeroPOS cost for a liquor store?

Standard is $30 a month for one location and three users. Pro is $50 a month with five users and adds advanced back-office reports and QuickBooks. A second store is added at the plan price, and both plans start with a 14-day trial, no card needed.
