Kitchen order tickets that print as you hold
Every time a server holds or pays an order, SeroPOS prints a kitchen order ticket so the cooks start right away. Add to the order later and the next ticket shows only what changed.
Kitchen order tickets in SeroPOS
Prints on hold
Pressing HOLD saves the order and sends a ticket to the kitchen in the same step.
Only what changed
When a held order is resumed and added to, the new ticket lists only new or increased items.
Prints while offline
Tickets go straight to the kitchen printer from the till, so an internet drop does not stop the line.
Reprint any time
The KOT button in the cart and on Held Sales cards reprints a ticket that went missing.
Locked once in process
Lines already sent to the kitchen cannot be changed at the till, which stops silent edits.
Routed by station
KOT Mapping sends each item to the right printer, such as bar, grill or cold line.
How kitchen tickets are sent
A kitchen order ticket, or KOT, is the slip the kitchen cooks from. In SeroPOS the server builds the order in the cart, then presses HOLD. The order is saved against the table or customer and the KOT prints on the kitchen printer. Quick service counters that take payment first get the ticket when the sale is paid.
The ticket carries what the cooks need: the items, quantities, modifiers and any cooking notes typed on the line. The Print KOT switch in the app's Settings turns ticket printing on for that till. Turn it on for the tills that send orders, and leave it off on a till that only takes payments.
Add-ons without double cooking
Tables rarely order everything at once. When a server reopens a held order from Held Sales or by tapping the table, adds a second round and holds again, SeroPOS compares the order with what was already sent. The new KOT carries only the new items and the increased quantities. The kitchen never sees the first course again and nobody cooks a duplicate plate.
If a ticket is lost or smudged, the KOT button in the cart reprints it, and every card on the Held Sales list has its own KOT button too. Reprints go to the same printer as the original, so the cook gets a clean copy in the usual place without anyone walking it over.
- HOLD: save the order and print the ticket
- KOT: reprint the ticket for the current order
- Held Sales: Edit, KOT and Delete on every card
Keeps printing when the internet drops
Kitchen tickets print from the till to a printer on your local network, Bluetooth or USB. They do not wait for the cloud. If your connection goes down mid-service, servers keep holding orders and the kitchen keeps receiving tickets. Sales are stored on the device and upload once the connection returns.
This matters most on a Friday night, when a router restart should not mean servers running handwritten slips to the pass. Tickets print, food goes out and the sales catch up with the back office on their own once the router is back. Staff do not need to do anything different while the connection is down.
Protecting orders once cooking starts
After a line has gone to the kitchen, the till locks it. Staff who try to change it see a message that the item is in process. Once the kitchen has started an order, the Held Sales list will not let staff update it either. That keeps the kitchen and the bill in step and stops someone quietly lowering a quantity after the food is made.
For a larger kitchen, KOT Mapping splits each order across several printers by category, product or food type, so drinks print at the bar and mains at the grill. Each station's printer gets only its own items, so nobody has to sort through a long ticket to find their part of the order.
Frequently asked questions
What is a KOT?
KOT stands for kitchen order ticket. It is the printed slip that tells the kitchen what to cook for an order, including quantities, modifiers and notes. In SeroPOS it prints automatically when an order is held or paid, on the kitchen printer you have set up.
Will the kitchen get the whole order again when a table adds items?
No. When a held order is resumed and you add items, the next ticket lists only new items and increased quantities. The kitchen sees exactly what is left to make, without the dishes it has already cooked. That keeps the line focused on what is still to cook.
Do kitchen tickets print if the internet is down?
Yes. Tickets print from the till straight to your kitchen printer over the local network, Bluetooth or USB, so they keep printing offline. Sales are saved on the device and uploaded when the connection returns. Staff keep working as usual while the connection is down.
How do I reprint a kitchen ticket?
Press KOT in the cart to reprint the current order's ticket. You can also open Held Sales and press KOT on the order's card. Both reprint the ticket on the kitchen printer. Use it when a ticket is lost, torn or unreadable.
Can I send drinks and food to different printers?
Yes. KOT Mapping, in the side drawer, links categories, products or food types to a printer. One order can then split into a bar ticket and a kitchen ticket automatically. Set it up once and it applies to every order from then on.
