Receipt printers for SeroPOS

Most thermal receipt printers on a shop counter speak ESC/POS or Star's command set, and SeroPOS can drive both. Add the printer once in Printer Management, send a test page, and every till at that location picks it up.

Receipt printers in SeroPOS

Four ways to connect

Choose Network, Bluetooth, USB or Windows printer when you add a printer. Network is the recommended option for a fixed counter.

Printer auto-detect

Auto-Detect Printers scans Bluetooth, USB and your Wi-Fi network at the same time, then lets you add what it finds.

58, 72 or 80 mm

Pick the paper width for each printer. 80 mm and 58 mm work on any connection; 72 mm is offered for USB printers.

ESC/POS, StarPRNT or TSC

Set the format and capability profile so the app sends the commands your printer understands.

One default printer

Star one printer as the default for receipts. It also opens the cash drawer when one is plugged into it.

Shared per location

Printer lists sync from the server for each location, so a replacement tablet does not need setting up from scratch.

Adding a receipt printer

Open the side drawer and tap Add/Edit Printer, or go to Admin and then Printer Setup. Both open Printer Management, which lists every printer for the location with a star next to the default. Tap Add printer and the app asks how the printer connects: Network, Bluetooth, USB or Windows printer. Give it a name your staff will recognise, such as Front Counter, then choose the format and the paper width.

Before you save, tap Test Printer. A short test page tells you straight away whether the address, pairing or cable is right and whether the paper width matches. If the text runs off the edge or wraps early, change the paper size and test again. Once it prints cleanly, save it and star it as the default if it is the main receipt printer.

  • Name the printer
  • Choose Network, Bluetooth, USB or Windows printer
  • Set ESC-POS or non-ESC-POS and the paper width
  • Test Printer, then Save

Let auto-detect do the searching

If you do not know the printer's IP address, tap Auto-detect in Printer Management. The app scans paired Bluetooth devices, attached USB printers and the local Wi-Fi subnet on port 9100 all at once, then shows what it found with an Add Printer button beside each one. You do not need to type an address or know which port the printer listens on.

This is a quick route for a network printer that picked up an address from your router. It also helps when someone has moved a printer to a new outlet or switch and you are not sure what changed. After adding a detected printer, it is worth giving it a fixed address in your router so it keeps the same IP after a power cut.

Formats, profiles and paper

Thermal receipt printers mostly use ESC/POS, the command set Epson introduced and many other makers copied. Star printers often use StarPRNT. When you add a printer you choose ESC-POS or non-ESC-POS; when you edit it you can also set the capability profile to ESC-POS, StarPRNT or TSC. If a test page prints strange characters or nothing at all, the profile is the first thing to check.

Paper width is set per printer: 58 mm for small portable and compact printers, 80 mm for most counter printers, and 72 mm for USB printers that use it. The receipt itself is laid out in Admin under Receipt Layout, where you set the heading, two sub-heading lines, footer, logo and whether a barcode prints on the receipt.

What the receipt printer handles

The default printer does more than customer receipts. It prints the hold bill and the provisional cart bill when you need to show a table their total before payment, the cash pay-out slip, the Daily Sales Report or Z report at close, card batch summaries and a decline slip when a card is refused. It can even print a help topic from the in-app knowledgebase.

Turn on Print Invoice in Settings if you want a receipt after every sale without asking. In QSR Mode you can leave Print All Invoices off instead, which puts a Print On/Off toggle beside the total so the cashier decides per order. Recent Transactions lets you reprint or share any past invoice.

Printers across several tills

Printers are saved on the server per location and sync down to each till, so the list looks the same on every device signed in to that location. That makes swapping a broken tablet or adding a second till much faster, because the printers are already there after sign-in and sync.

Each device still needs to be able to reach the printer. A network printer can be shared by several tills on the same network, while a USB printer is tied to the device it is plugged into and a Bluetooth printer pairs with one device at a time. For a busy counter with two or more tills, a network receipt printer is usually less trouble.

Frequently asked questions

Which receipt printers work with SeroPOS?

SeroPOS prints to thermal receipt printers that use ESC/POS or StarPRNT commands, which covers most counter printers sold for POS use. You can connect them over the network, Bluetooth, USB or as a Windows printer. Send a test page from Printer Management before you save it to confirm the format and paper width are right.

Do I need an 80 mm or 58 mm printer?

Either works. 80 mm is the usual width for a fixed counter and gives longer item names room to breathe. 58 mm suits small portable Bluetooth printers. You set the width per printer in SeroPOS, and 72 mm is also offered for USB printers. The receipt layout adjusts to the paper you choose.

Can SeroPOS find my printer automatically?

Yes. Tap Auto-detect in Printer Management and the app scans Bluetooth, USB and your Wi-Fi network on port 9100 in parallel. Each printer it finds has an Add Printer button. You then name it, test it and save it. If nothing shows, check the printer is powered on and on the same network as the till.

Will the printer open my cash drawer?

Yes, if the drawer is plugged into the printer's drawer port. SeroPOS sends a drawer pulse through the default printer when you tap Open Drawer, and most receipts kick the drawer as they print. Make sure the printer with the drawer attached is the one starred as default.

Can I print receipts when the internet is down?

Network, Bluetooth and USB printers are driven straight from the till, so sales and kitchen tickets keep printing while the till works offline. Sales are stored on the device and sent to the server when the connection returns. A few screens, such as the Daily Sales Report and Recent Transactions, need internet.
