Loyalty points customers earn and redeem
Reward regulars with points they collect on every purchase and spend on a later one. You set how points are earned, the minimums for redeeming and when points expire, and staff redeem them on the payment screen in a couple of taps.

Setting up your program
Reward points are set up in Business Settings, on the Reward Point Settings tab, or in the SeroPOS app under Admin, then Settings, then Reward Points. Turn them on and choose a display name customers will see on receipts and at the till. Then set the earning rules, the redeeming rules and the expiry period.
Start simple. A common setup is one point per dollar spent, with each point worth one cent when redeemed. That gives a one percent reward, which is easy to explain. You can make it more generous later once you see how customers respond. Write the rules down for staff, so they can explain them to customers.
Earning and redeeming rules
Earning rules decide how points are collected: the amount a customer spends to earn one point, the minimum order total before any points are earned and the maximum points a single order can earn. The cap stops one very large order from creating a huge balance. Keep the earning rules simple enough to explain at the counter.
Redeeming rules decide how points are spent: the value of each point, the minimum order total before points can be used, and the minimum and maximum number of points redeemed on one order. Setting a minimum prevents customers redeeming a few cents at a time. Clear rules make points easy for staff to explain.

Redeeming at the till
Attach the customer to the sale and points are earned automatically when it is completed. To redeem, open the Points chip on the payment screen. It shows the customer's available points and lets staff enter the points to redeem, and the total drops by their value. In QSR Mode, the Adjust button includes loyalty points with a summary of order total, loyalty redeem and final total.
Points can also be redeemed on invoices created in the back office. The invoice layout can show the customer's reward points, so they can see their balance on every receipt. Seeing a balance on the receipt is often enough to bring a customer back to spend it. It also reminds staff to ask regulars whether they want to use their points today.
Tracking the program
Each customer's record has a Reward Points tab showing points earned and redeemed, so staff can answer questions about a balance quickly. The profit and loss report includes the customer reward amount, so you can see what the program costs you over any period. Consistent answers build trust in the program.
Watch how often members come back and how much they spend compared with other customers. Pair points with customer groups or birthday wishes in the CRM to give regulars more reasons to return. Small, regular rewards tend to work better than rare big ones, and they are easier to afford.
Frequently asked questions
How do customers earn points?
Points are earned when a customer is attached to a sale and the sale is completed. The number of points depends on your earning rules: the amount spent per point, a minimum order total and a maximum per order. Walk-in sales without a customer do not earn points.
How do staff redeem points at the till?
On the payment screen, open the Points chip. It shows the customer's available points. Enter the points to redeem and the total drops by their value, within the minimum and maximum you set. In QSR Mode, use Adjust. Staff do not need to work out the value themselves.
Can points expire?
Yes. Set an expiry period in months or years in the reward point settings. Points older than that period expire, which keeps balances current and encourages customers to come back and use them. Tell customers when points expire. Keep the period generous enough.
Can customers see their points balance?
Invoice layouts can show the customer's reward points, so their balance appears on receipts. Staff can also see the balance on the payment screen and on the Reward Points tab of the customer record. That reminder brings customers back. Balances encourage return visits.
What does a points program cost me?
That depends on your rules. If one point is earned per dollar and each point is worth one cent, you give back about one percent of member sales. The profit and loss report shows the customer reward amount for any period. Review the figure every few months.
