Stripe payments for online and QR orders
Customers who order from your QR menu or online catalogue can pay by card before the order reaches you. Connect your own Stripe account in the back office and the checkout offers card payment, with the money going to your Stripe balance.
Stripe in SeroPOS
Card payment at checkout
Shoppers pay by card on Stripe's checkout page when they place a QR or online order, and come back to an Order placed confirmation.
Your own Stripe account
Payments go to the Stripe account whose keys you enter, not through a SeroPOS account.
Set up in Business Settings
Enter your Stripe keys on the Stripe tab of Business Settings in the back office.
Payment methods per location
Choose which payment methods each location's catalogue offers, so one store can take cards online while another takes payment on pickup.
Paid orders on the till
Orders arrive on the till with their payment status, so staff can see at a glance which orders are already paid.
Works with table ordering
Guests ordering from a table pick their table at checkout, then pay by card from their phone.
Where Stripe fits in SeroPOS
SeroPOS gives each location a QR menu and online catalogue where customers browse your menu, build an order with variations, modifiers and combos, and check out. Stripe is the card payment option on that checkout. The customer pays on Stripe's secure page, then returns to your catalogue to see Order placed.
Stripe is used for these online and QR orders. Card payments at the counter run through an integrated card terminal from Global Payments, Moneris or Gravity Payments instead, because SeroPOS does not use Stripe card readers in store. Keeping the two apart means your online orders and your counter payments each use the option that suits them.
Connecting your Stripe account
Sign in to your Stripe dashboard and copy your API keys. In the SeroPOS back office, open Settings, then Business Settings, and go to the Stripe tab. Paste the keys and save. Keep your secret key private, and only let admins open Business Settings, since the key is shown on that tab.
Next, open each business location and choose the payment methods its catalogue should offer. A location might offer Stripe card payment and cash on pickup, or card only. Then place a small test order from the QR code and check that it reaches the till and shows as paid. Then void or refund it from your Stripe dashboard if needed.
- Copy your keys from the Stripe dashboard
- Open Business Settings, then the Stripe tab
- Paste the keys and save
- Choose payment methods for each location's catalogue
- Place a test order from the QR code
What the customer sees
From the QR code or catalogue link, the customer sees your banner, categories and menu for that location, with prices and any location discount. They add items to the cart, then at checkout pick a type of service, such as dine-in or takeaway, a table if they are seated, their details and a payment method, and can leave order notes.
When they choose card, they are sent to Stripe's checkout page to enter their card, then returned to your catalogue with a confirmation. Customers can check out as a guest or sign in to an account, and a guest's cart moves into their account if they sign in. The whole flow works on any phone browser, so there is no app to download.
What your staff see
New QR and online orders arrive on the till with a Web Order Received popup and a bell. The popup shows the order details, any note, the order type and the payment status. Staff press View Order to move the order into the cart, then print the kitchen ticket and prepare it as usual.
The Bot / Web Orders list on the till shows every online order with its platform, order ID, time, total and shipping status, and staff can print the invoice from there. Paid card orders are recorded with their payment, so they show correctly in your daily sales and sales payment reports.
Things to know
Stripe checkout on the SeroPOS catalogue charges in Canadian dollars. Stripe's own processing fees apply under your Stripe account. If you would rather not take card payments online, leave Stripe off and offer cash or card on collection, and the order is recorded without a payment until the customer pays at the counter.
The QR menu and online ordering are part of the Online ordering and QR add-on module. You can create and download a branded QR code with your logo and colours from Catalogue QR in the back office, and print it for tables, windows and flyers. Each location gets its own QR code and menu, so a group can run different menus at each store.
Frequently asked questions
Can customers pay by card when they order from a QR code?
Yes. Connect your Stripe account in Business Settings and choose Stripe as a payment method for the location's catalogue. When a customer checks out from your QR menu or online catalogue, they can pay by card on Stripe's checkout page, and the order reaches your till marked with its payment status.
Does SeroPOS support Stripe card readers in store?
No. Stripe is used for card payments on QR and online orders. For card payments at the counter, SeroPOS works with integrated terminals from Global Payments, including Global Pay Cloud and Terminal Plus, Moneris Go and Gravity Payments. Those send the amount from the till to the terminal.
What currency does Stripe checkout use?
Stripe checkout on the SeroPOS catalogue charges in Canadian dollars. If your Stripe account settles in another currency, Stripe converts the payment under its own terms. Check with us before connecting if your business prices in US dollars, so we can tell you the current options.
Do I need my own Stripe account?
Yes. You create and own the Stripe account, and the card payments from your QR and online orders go to its balance. You enter its keys in the SeroPOS back office. Stripe's processing fees apply under your Stripe agreement, and payouts to your bank follow your Stripe settings.
Can customers still pay at pickup?
Yes. Payment methods are chosen per location, so you can offer Stripe card payment alongside cash or card on collection, or leave Stripe off. Orders placed with a pay-on-collection method arrive on the till without a payment, and staff take payment when the customer collects.
