A kitchen display built into the app
KDS Mode turns a tablet or desktop running SeroPOS into a kitchen screen. Tickets appear with a chime, change colour as they age and leave the board when the cook presses SERVE.
Kitchen display system in SeroPOS
Built into the app
No separate kitchen app to install: switch a SeroPOS tablet or PC into KDS Mode in Settings.
Chime on new tickets
A double-beep chime and a 10-second highlight mark every new ticket on the board.
Age at a glance
Counters show On time, Attention after 8 minutes and Late after 15 minutes.
Tick lines, then serve
Cooks tap lines to tick them off, see DONE n of m, then press SERVE to bump the ticket.
Filter by station
Station chips, plus All Stations, show each screen only the tickets it cooks.
All Day and Recall
One panel totals what is left to cook; another brings back tickets bumped in the last two hours.
A kitchen screen from the same app
KDS Mode is a setting inside SeroPOS, described on screen as a way to turn this screen into a kitchen display. Any tablet or desktop that runs the app can become a kitchen screen, so you do not need a second product or a different login. Turning it on needs a paid plan and a manager's approval, and the device then opens straight to the Kitchen Display board.
KDS Mode replaces the till on that device and runs full screen on a desktop. It is not available on phones, together with Kiosk Mode, or in Retail Mode. Use a tablet or desktop for each station that needs a screen. Other stations can keep printing tickets, so you can move the kitchen to screens one station at a time.
What cooks see on the board
Each order lands as a ticket with its items, modifiers and notes. New tickets arrive with a double-beep chime and a 10-second highlight, so a cook with their back turned still notices. Across the top, counters show how many tickets are On time, how many need Attention at 8 minutes or more, and how many are Late at 15 minutes or more.
Cooks tap each line as it is ready and the ticket shows DONE with the count. When everything is up, SERVE bumps it off the board. When the queue is empty the board says All caught up. The colour of each ticket follows its age, so the oldest orders stand out without anyone reading the times.
- On time: under 8 minutes
- Attention: 8 minutes or more
- Late: 15 minutes or more
Stations, All Day and Recall
Station chips filter the board so the fryer screen shows fryer items and the pass screen shows everything with All Stations. Stations follow your kitchen routing, so the same setup that sends tickets to printers also splits the screens. Each screen remembers its station, so a tablet mounted at the fryer opens on fryer tickets every time it starts.
The All Day panel totals what still has to be cooked across every open ticket, such as fourteen fries and six burgers, which helps the line batch work. The Recall panel holds tickets bumped in the last two hours, so a ticket served by mistake comes back with one tap.
Connection, cleanup and exiting
The board polls for new tickets every 10 seconds and shows Live, how long ago it last updated, or a connection problem message while it retries. KDS Cleanup in the side drawer removes cooked or deleted tickets older than an hour, every 30 minutes, and offers a manual cleanup when you want a fresh board.
Leaving KDS Mode needs Admin or Manager credentials, so a cook cannot drop the screen back to the till by accident. Owners and managers can switch a device back to the till in a few seconds when they need it for something else, such as a spare register on a busy night.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need special hardware for the kitchen display?
No. KDS Mode runs on a tablet or desktop that already runs SeroPOS, including Android tablets, iPads, Windows PCs and Macs. Phones are not supported for KDS. Mount the device where the line can see it and switch it to KDS Mode in Settings.
Can I run printed tickets and a kitchen screen together?
Yes. Kitchen tickets can keep printing at some stations while other stations use KDS Mode. Both use the same KOT setup, and the Print KDS setting walks you through enabling, configuring and mapping KOT first. That way you can try a screen at one station before changing the rest.
How do cooks mark food as done?
Cooks tap each line on a ticket to tick it off, and the ticket shows how many lines are done. When the whole order is ready they press SERVE, which bumps the ticket off the board. Bumped tickets stay in Recall for two hours.
How does the screen show late orders?
Counters at the top of the board group tickets as On time, Attention at 8 minutes or more, and Late at 15 minutes or more. The kitchen can see at a glance how many orders are slipping. Ticket colours follow the same timings, so late orders stand out.
Can a kitchen screen be switched back to a till?
Yes, with permission. Exit KDS Mode asks for Admin or Manager credentials, then the device returns to the normal SeroPOS screens. This stops kitchen staff leaving the board by accident. Once it is back to normal, the device works as a regular till again.
