Gravity Payments integration

SeroPOS works with Gravity Payments card terminals, so if you already process with Gravity you can keep your terminal. The till sends the amount, waits for the answer and records approvals, partial approvals and card returns on the sale.

What you get

Gravity payments in SeroPOS

Amount from the till

SeroPOS sends the sale total to your Gravity Payments terminal, so the amount is never keyed in by hand.

Approvals recorded

An approved card payment is saved on the sale with its card details, and the receipt prints from the till.

Partial approvals

When a card approves only part of the total, SeroPOS records that amount and leaves the rest due for another payment.

Card returns

Returns to a card are recorded against the original sale, so your sales and refunds stay tied together.

Three settings to enter

Gravity Pay Settings needs only your OID, token and device name to link a till to its terminal.

Terminal per till

Give each till its own terminal ID, so every counter charges on its own device.

How it works at the counter

Ring the sale, choose card on the payment screen and SeroPOS sends the amount to the Gravity Payments terminal linked to that till. The customer taps, inserts or swipes on the terminal. SeroPOS checks for the result every 20 seconds while the payment dialog is open, so the cashier sees the answer without pressing anything.

The dialog handles three outcomes from the terminal: Approved, Partially Approved and CreditReturn. An approval closes the payment. A partial approval records what the card covered and leaves the balance for cash or another card. A credit return records money going back to the card. Each outcome is saved on the sale, so the receipt and reports show exactly what the terminal did.

Setting up Gravity Payments

In the till's settings, turn on Gravity Payments and tap the gear to open Gravity Pay Settings. Enter the OID and token from your Gravity Payments account and the device name of the terminal. Save, then run a small test sale to make sure the till and terminal are talking.

If you have more than one terminal, open Card Terminal for This Till under Admin, Tools on each till. Give the till a name, such as Front Till or Bar, and enter the terminal it should use, then choose Save for this till. Choose Use shared if every till should charge the same terminal.

  • Turn on Gravity Payments in settings
  • Enter OID, token and device name
  • Save and run a test sale
  • Assign a terminal to each till

Partial approvals and split bills

A partial approval happens when a card, often a prepaid one, can only cover part of the bill. Rather than declining the whole sale, the terminal approves what it can. SeroPOS records that payment on the sale and shows what is still owed, so the customer can pay the rest with cash or a second card.

Splitting on purpose works too. Split a bill by even shares, percentage, items or custom amounts, then send each card share to the terminal in turn. Cash and card legs can be mixed, and the receipt and the sales payment report show each payment separately. Each card share is sent to the terminal one at a time.

Reports and reconciliation

Gravity Payments card payments are saved like any other payment method. They show in the daily sales report under payments by method, in the register report for each shift's card total, and in the sales payment report, which you can filter by payment method and date to match against your Gravity deposits.

Card returns are linked to the sale they came from, so the refund shows on that sale's history and in the returns figures on your reports. If you add a credit card surcharge, it is set per location from 0 to 2 percent and applies to credit cards only. Credit card surcharges show as their own line on the daily sales report.

Other processors

Gravity Payments is one of four card terminal options in SeroPOS. The others are Global Pay Cloud, Global Payments terminals on your network or with Terminal Plus on the T650P, and Moneris Go. If you are not tied to a processor, send us a recent card processing statement and we'll quote a rate.

Whatever terminal you choose, the rest of SeroPOS stays the same: your menu, tables, reports and back office do not change when you switch processor. Your team keeps the same screens and the same habits, and your sales history stays in one place. That makes it practical to start with the terminal you already have and change later if a better rate comes along, without moving your menu or retraining staff.

Frequently asked questions

Does SeroPOS work with Gravity Payments?

Yes. SeroPOS links to Gravity Payments card terminals. You enter your OID, token and the terminal's device name in Gravity Pay Settings on the till. The till then sends each card sale's amount to the terminal and records the approval, partial approval or card return on the sale.

What does a partially approved payment mean?

It means the card approved less than the amount asked for, which often happens with prepaid cards. SeroPOS records the approved amount as a payment on the sale and shows the balance still owed. The customer can pay the rest with cash or another card, and the receipt lists both payments.

How long does a Gravity Payments transaction take to show on the till?

While the payment dialog is open, SeroPOS checks the terminal for a result every 20 seconds and updates as soon as it gets one. The cashier does not need to press anything, and the dialog shows Approved, Partially Approved or CreditReturn when the terminal answers.

Can I use more than one Gravity terminal?

Yes. On each till, open Card Terminal for This Till under Admin, Tools, name the till and enter the terminal it should charge, then choose Save for this till. That way a front counter and a bar each use their own terminal, even when they share the same login and network.

Do Gravity Payments refunds go back to the card?

Card returns from the terminal are recorded as CreditReturn results on the sale, so the money going back to the card is tied to the original sale in SeroPOS. Process refunds from Recent Transactions on the till, choosing which payment to refund.
