Android tablet POS

An Android tablet makes a flexible SeroPOS till, because it can talk to USB printers and scales as well as Bluetooth and network devices. Install SeroPOS from Google Play and the tablet runs the full sale screen, tables, a kitchen display or a kiosk.

The full tablet sale screen

On a tablet-sized screen, SeroPOS uses its tablet layout: the cart on one side, categories and products on the other, and a floating dial for the drawer, pay-outs, hold, resume and clear. Home has the customer search, a card for each service type and quick actions. Quick Service Mode swaps in a configurable product grid with pay buttons right under the cart.

Retail Mode suits shops: restaurant screens such as tables and kitchen tickets are hidden and the Home screen shows a single New Sale button. A restaurant can instead turn the same tablet into a kitchen display with KDS Mode, or a self-order kiosk with Kiosk Mode, both on a paid plan. The modes are one switch away in Settings.

Why Android suits hardware-heavy counters

Android gives SeroPOS direct access to USB devices, which iPad does not. Receipt printers on USB are driven directly with no driver to install, and weighing scales connect over USB OTG for delis, grocers and butchers. A powered USB hub lets one tablet run a printer, a scale and a barcode scanner together.

Android can also drive a second screen over HDMI or USB-C. Open Multi Monitor, tap Scan for Displays and Launch, and the customer sees their order build on the second screen while staff keep the normal sale screen. Bluetooth printers and network printers work too, and Auto-detect scans for all three kinds at once.

  • USB scales over OTG
  • HDMI or USB-C customer display
  • Bluetooth and network printers

Card payments on Android

All four integrated card options work with Android tills: Global Pay Cloud, Moneris Go Cloud and Gravity Payments with a terminal beside the tablet, and Global Payments Terminal Plus, where SeroPOS runs on an Android payment terminal such as the T650P handheld. Each till can have its own terminal through Card Terminal for This Till in Admin.

The app's payment safety net applies on every platform: approved charges are recorded before the sale is saved, with a duplicate-charge warning and a Check on Terminal option when a result is unclear. If you would like a processing quote, send us a recent statement and we'll quote a rate.

Picking a tablet

SeroPOS switches to the tablet layout on screens 650dp wide and up, which covers most 10 and 11 inch tablets in landscape. Smaller devices use the phone layout. Quick Service Mode, Kiosk Mode, KDS Mode and Multi Monitor need the tablet layout, so pick a full-size tablet for the main counter.

Look for a tablet with a USB-C port that supports OTG if you plan to plug in printers or a scale, and a sturdy stand that keeps it charging. Several Android tablets can work together as client tills with Server/Client Mode on the Pro plan, connected to a Windows PC acting as the server till.

Frequently asked questions

Is SeroPOS on Google Play?

Yes. Install SeroPOS from Google Play on your Android tablet or phone, create your business in the app and start the 14-day free trial without a card. When you subscribe, billing runs through your Google Play account. The same account works on your other devices.

Can I connect a USB receipt printer to an Android tablet?

Yes. SeroPOS on Android drives USB receipt printers directly, so no driver is needed. Most tablets need a USB OTG adapter or a powered hub for a full-size USB port. Add the printer as USB in Add/Edit Printer, choose the paper width and send a test page.

Does an Android tablet work with a weighing scale?

Yes. Connect a USB scale through USB OTG, then open Add Weighing Scale in the side drawer and connect it from the Detected scales list. You can also add a network scale by IP address. The row appears once weighing is enabled for your business.

What size Android tablet do I need?

For the full tablet sale screen, Quick Service Mode, kiosk or kitchen display, choose a tablet whose screen is at least 650dp wide, which covers most 10 and 11 inch tablets in landscape. Smaller devices run the phone layout, which works well for taking orders on the floor.

Can I use an Android tablet as a kitchen display?

Yes. Turn on KDS Mode in Settings with a paid plan and manager approval. The tablet becomes a full-screen kitchen board with station filters, ticket timers, an All Day panel and a Recall panel. Kitchen orders appear as they are sent from the tills.
