Kitchen printers for SeroPOS

A kitchen printer only helps if the grill gets the burgers and the bar gets the drinks. In SeroPOS you set up each station as a KOT, point it at a printer and choose which categories, products or food types it receives.

What you get

Kitchen printers in SeroPOS

One KOT per station

Create a KOT for each station, such as Grill, Bar or Pastry, and pick the printer it prints to.

Route by category

Assign whole categories to a station, so every item in Cocktails goes to the bar without further setup.

Route by product

Send single products to a different station when they do not follow their category, like a dessert made on the line.

Route by food type

Split tickets by Veg, Non Veg, Eggitarian or General, which suits kitchens with separate prep areas.

Prints when offline

Kitchen tickets print from the till over your local network, so the kitchen keeps working if the internet drops.

Only what is new

When a held order is resumed and added to, the next ticket carries only the new or increased items.

How kitchen tickets get to the right printer

Kitchen order tickets, or KOTs, are set up under KOT Mapping in the side drawer. Each KOT has a unique name and one printer. You then tell it what to receive: whole categories, individual products, food types, or a mix. Pickers have Select all and Clear, so mapping a large menu takes a few minutes rather than an afternoon.

When a server holds an order or sends it to the kitchen, SeroPOS splits the lines by these mappings and prints each part on its own station's printer. The grill sees only grill items, the bar sees only drinks, and nobody has to tear a long ticket in half and walk it across the kitchen.

  • Open KOT Mapping from the side drawer
  • Tap ADD KOT and give the station a name
  • Choose its printer
  • Pick categories, products or food types
  • Save, then turn on Print KOT in Settings

Choosing a printer for the kitchen

Kitchen printers are added the same way as receipt printers, in Add/Edit Printer. A network printer is the usual choice because several tills can send to it and it can sit wherever the cooks need it, as long as it is on the same network. Bluetooth and USB printers also work but are tied to one device.

The kitchen is hot and greasy, so many restaurants pick a printer built for it. What matters to SeroPOS is that the printer accepts ESC/POS or StarPRNT commands and can be reached by the till. Send a test page from the printer screen, then place a test order to confirm each station gets the items you mapped.

Changes, holds and reprints

Tapping HOLD saves the order and prints the KOT. If the table orders another round and the server resumes the hold, the new ticket shows only what was added or increased, so the cooks are not confused by a full repeat of the first course. The KOT button on the cart reprints a ticket when one goes missing.

Once the kitchen has started an item it is locked on the till: the app shows a message that the item is in process and cannot be changed. That stops a line being quietly edited after it has gone to the pass. Orders that arrive online or from a delivery platform can print a kitchen ticket too.

Printers, a kitchen screen, or both

Some kitchens prefer paper, others a screen. SeroPOS can turn a tablet or PC into a kitchen display with KDS Mode, showing tickets with on-time, attention and late counters. Print KDS in Settings sends orders to the display, and it checks that KOTs are enabled, configured and mapped first, because the display uses the same station routing.

That means you can run a printer at the bar and a screen on the hot line, using one set of station mappings. KOT routing is a restaurant feature, so KOT Mapping and kitchen tickets are hidden when a till is in Retail Mode. Shops that run a small kitchen alongside retail sales keep the till in the normal restaurant layout instead.

Frequently asked questions

Can I send drinks to the bar and food to the kitchen?

Yes. Create one KOT for the bar and one for the kitchen in KOT Mapping, give each its own printer, and assign your drink categories to the bar KOT and food categories to the kitchen KOT. Each order is split automatically, so each station only prints its own items.

Do kitchen tickets print without internet?

Yes. Kitchen tickets are sent from the till straight to the printer over your local network, Bluetooth or USB, so they keep printing if your internet connection drops. Sales taken offline are stored on the device and uploaded when the connection returns.

Does SeroPOS work with impact kitchen printers?

SeroPOS cares about the printer's command set and connection rather than whether it is thermal or impact. If the printer accepts ESC/POS or StarPRNT commands and is reachable over the network, Bluetooth or USB, add it in Printer Management and send a test page to confirm it prints correctly.

What happens when a table adds items to an order?

Resume the held order, add the new items and hold it again. The new kitchen ticket shows only the new or increased items, not the whole order. Items the kitchen has already started are locked on the till so they cannot be changed after the fact.

Can I route one product differently from its category?

Yes. A KOT can receive whole categories and also individual products, so you can send most desserts to the pastry station while one item made on the line goes to the grill. You can also route by food type such as Veg or Non Veg.
