Moneris POS integration
If you process with Moneris, SeroPOS can drive your Moneris Go terminal directly. The till sends the amount, the terminal handles the card and any tip, and the result comes back onto the sale and the receipt.
Moneris in SeroPOS
Amount sent to Moneris Go
The till sends the sale total to the terminal, so the cashier never types the amount twice.
Tips from the terminal
A tip the customer enters on the Moneris terminal comes back to SeroPOS and prints on the receipt as Tip / Gratuity.
Terminal behaviour synced
SeroPOS reads your terminal's tip prompt and presets, debit surcharge, cashback and receipt prompt settings from Moneris, so you can see them in one place.
Refunds to the card
Card refunds go straight back to the customer's card, with an independent refund option when the customer presents the card.
Test mode you can see
Switch between TEST and Production. In TEST the settings screen turns red, so nobody mistakes a test terminal for a live one.
Terminal menu on the till
History, Print Last Card Receipt, Sync Terminal with Moneris and Reboot Terminal are a tap away from the till.
What the integration does
SeroPOS works with Moneris Go terminals through Moneris' cloud connection. When the cashier chooses card on the payment screen, SeroPOS sends the amount to the terminal assigned to that till and waits for the customer to tap, insert or swipe. The approval, card details and any tip come back to SeroPOS and are saved with the sale.
Because the amount comes from the till, totals in SeroPOS and Moneris agree without anyone keying the sale into the terminal. That makes the day-end check shorter, and it removes the common mistake of charging $45.00 for a $54.00 bill. It also means refunds and voids can be matched to the original card payment later.
Setting up Moneris in SeroPOS
Turn on Moneris Payments in the till's settings and open Moneris Pay Settings with the gear icon. Enter the Merchant ID, Store ID, API token and Terminal ID that Moneris gave you. Leave the switch on TEST while you try it out, then move it to Production when you are ready to take real cards.
Each till can have its own terminal. Under Card Terminal for This Till in Admin, Tools, give the till a name, such as Front Till or Patio, and enter the terminal ID it should use. Choose Save for this till, or Use shared if every till charges on the same device.
- Turn on Moneris Payments in settings
- Enter Merchant ID, Store ID, API token and Terminal ID
- Test in TEST mode, then switch to Production
- Assign a terminal to each till
- Run Sync Terminal with Moneris
Terminal behaviour, read from Moneris
Many choices about how a Moneris terminal behaves are set on the Moneris side: whether it asks for a tip and what the preset percentages are, whether an Interac debit surcharge applies, whether cashback is offered, and whether it prompts for a receipt. SeroPOS syncs those settings and shows them read-only under Terminal Behaviour, together with whether voids and refunds are allowed and which cards are accepted.
If something looks wrong, such as no tip prompt on a terminal you use for table service, change it with Moneris, then press Sync Terminal with Moneris so the till shows the new behaviour. That way the till and the terminal always describe the same set-up, and staff are not surprised by a prompt they did not expect. Seeing these settings on the till is also useful when training new staff on what the customer will be asked.
Refunds and voids
To refund a card sale, open it in Recent Transactions and choose Refund Sale or Void Sale. SeroPOS asks which payment to void or refund, and card refunds run on the terminal. A banner on the settings screen notes that refunds go direct to the card. If a linked refund cannot be completed, you can try linked refunds again.
When the customer is in front of you with the card, Independent Refund, Customer Presents Card refunds it without needing the original transaction link. If a payment stalls, the dialog's Close, Check Terminal Before Charging Again option reminds staff to confirm on the terminal before taking the card a second time.
Moneris and your processing rate
You need your own Moneris merchant account and a Moneris Go terminal. If you already have both, connecting them to SeroPOS takes a few minutes. If you are reviewing what you pay for card processing, send us a recent statement and we'll quote a rate. Moneris supplies the terminal and the credentials, and SeroPOS only needs those four values to start charging on it.
Moneris card payments appear in the SeroPOS daily sales report under payments by method, in the register report for each shift, and in the sales payment report, so you can match each day's card total against your Moneris deposit. Tips taken on the terminal are counted in the same reports, which helps when you share them out at the end of the shift.
Frequently asked questions
Which Moneris terminals work with SeroPOS?
SeroPOS works with Moneris Go terminals, connected through Moneris' cloud. You need a Moneris merchant account and the Merchant ID, Store ID, API token and Terminal ID for each terminal. Older Moneris terminals that do not support the Go cloud connection are not supported by the SeroPOS integration.
Can customers tip on the Moneris terminal?
Yes, when tip prompting is turned on for your terminal with Moneris. The customer chooses a preset or enters an amount on the terminal, and the tip comes back to SeroPOS with the approval. It prints on the receipt as Tip / Gratuity and is included in the daily sales report.
How do refunds work with Moneris and SeroPOS?
Open the sale in Recent Transactions and choose Refund Sale. SeroPOS asks which payment to refund, and the card refund runs on the Moneris terminal, going straight back to the customer's card. If the customer presents the card, Independent Refund refunds it without the original transaction link.
Can I test Moneris before taking real payments?
Yes. Moneris Pay Settings has a TEST and Production switch. In TEST mode the settings screen turns red, so it is obvious the till is not taking real money. Run a few sales, tips and refunds in TEST, then switch to Production with your live credentials.
Can SeroPOS lower my Moneris rate?
Send us a recent card processing statement and we'll quote a rate, so you can compare it with what you pay today. SeroPOS works with Moneris, Global Payments and Gravity Payments terminals, and your SeroPOS plan price does not change with the processor you pick.
