Mac POS
If your counter already has an iMac or a Mac mini on it, it can be your till. SeroPOS for macOS comes from the Mac App Store and runs the full desktop sale screen with USB and network printers, USB and serial scales, and a second monitor for the customer.
Mac in SeroPOS
From the Mac App Store
Install SeroPOS from the Mac App Store and subscribe through your App Store account after the trial.
USB printers, no driver
The Mac app talks to USB receipt printers directly, as well as network printers on port 9100.
USB and serial scales
Read weights from HID USB scales and RS-232 serial scales, or a scale on the network.
Second monitor display
Show the order on a second monitor in its own window or a full-screen browser.
Desktop sale screen
The full desktop layout, with Quick Service Mode, Retail Mode, KDS Mode and Kiosk Mode.
Keyboard and scanner
Zoom with Cmd and plus or minus, and scan barcodes with a USB keyboard-style scanner.
A desktop till on macOS
SeroPOS on the Mac uses the same tablet and desktop layout as Windows: categories, products and the cart side by side, with the floating dial for the drawer, pay-outs, hold, resume and clear. Home shows customer search, a card per service type and quick actions. With a mouse or a touchscreen monitor, it works like any counter till.
Quick Service Mode gives a counter a fast product grid with inline pay buttons, and Retail Mode hides restaurant screens for a shop. KDS Mode turns the Mac into a kitchen board and Kiosk Mode into a self-order screen; both go borderless full screen on desktop and need a paid plan. Use Cmd and plus, minus or 0 to zoom, and F11 for full screen.
Printers and drawers
The Mac app drives USB receipt printers directly, using the printer's USB identity, so there is no driver to install. Plug the printer in, add it as USB in Add/Edit Printer, pick 58, 72 or 80 mm paper and send a test page. Network printers on port 9100 work too, and Auto-detect scans the local network for them.
A cash drawer plugs into the receipt printer's drawer port. Star that printer as the default and SeroPOS opens the drawer with cash sales, from Open Drawer and for cash pay-outs. Kitchen printers on the network can be mapped to stations in KOT Mapping, so a Mac at the front counter can send grill and bar tickets to the right place.
- USB receipt printers, driven directly
- Network printers on port 9100
- Cash drawer through the default printer
- Kitchen tickets routed by station
Scales and the customer screen
For delis, cheese shops and bulk food, the Mac reads HID USB scales and RS-232 serial scales, and network scales by IP address and port. Open Add Weighing Scale once weighing is enabled, connect the scale from the Detected scales list and check the live reading. If no scale is connected, staff can type the weight on the keypad.
For the customer screen, open Multi Monitor, refresh the monitor list and choose Open Display for a native window on the second monitor or In Browser for a full-screen browser. Pick Split Screen, Cart Only, Media or Slideshow Only, add your own images or video, and apply the layout live.
Running a Mac with other tills
A Mac can join a multi-till setup as a client with Server/Client Mode on the Pro plan. The server till itself must be a Windows PC; the Mac connects to it on your local network and shares its database, including the floor plan, held orders and kitchen display. A single Mac on its own runs as a standalone till.
Either way, the till keeps selling if the internet drops. Sales are saved on the Mac and uploaded when the connection returns, and kitchen tickets keep printing over the local network. To manage products and reports in depth, open the back office from Admin, which signs you in to it in your browser with a one-time link.
Frequently asked questions
Is SeroPOS available for Mac?
Yes. SeroPOS for macOS is on the Mac App Store. Install it, create your business in the app and start the 14-day free trial with no card. When you subscribe, billing runs through your App Store account. Standard is $30 a month and Pro is $50.
Which receipt printers work with a Mac?
USB receipt printers, which the Mac app drives directly without a driver, and network printers on port 9100. Both should use ESC/POS or StarPRNT commands. Add them in Add/Edit Printer or with Auto-detect, choose the paper width and send a test page.
Can I use a weighing scale with SeroPOS on a Mac?
Yes. The Mac app reads HID USB scales and serial RS-232 scales, and network scales by IP address and port. Turn on weighing, mark products with Enable Weight, then connect the scale in Add Weighing Scale and check the live reading before selling.
Can a Mac be the server till for other devices?
No. In Server/Client Mode, only a Windows PC can be the server. A Mac can be a client till that connects to the Windows server on your local network, sharing tables, held orders and the kitchen display. Server/Client Mode is part of the Pro plan.
Can I show a customer display on a second Mac monitor?
Yes. Open Multi Monitor in the side drawer, refresh monitors, and choose Open Display for a native window on the second screen, or In Browser for a full-screen browser. Choose a layout and theme, add slides if you like, and tap Apply Live.
