Global Payments card terminals

SeroPOS sends the sale amount to your Global Payments terminal, so nobody keys it in twice and the receipt shows what the card actually paid. Link them with Global Pay Cloud or with Terminal Plus running on the terminal itself; an existing direct network connection also still works.

What you get

Global payments in SeroPOS

Amount sent to the terminal

The till pushes the total to the terminal and waits for the result, so there is no typing the amount by hand and no mismatched totals.

Tips on the terminal

When the terminal prompts for a tip, the amount comes back to SeroPOS and prints on the receipt as Tip / Gratuity.

Safe retry

If a tap stalls, the dialog offers Tap Card Again, Safe Retry and Check on Terminal, so you can find out whether the card was charged before trying again.

Close batch from the till

Close the batch and print the day-end report from SeroPOS, or print a batch summary without closing.

One terminal per till

Each till can be tied to its own terminal, so a bar till and a front till never charge on each other's device.

Card refunds and voids

Void or refund a card sale from Recent Transactions, and the refund runs on the terminal against that payment.

Three ways to connect

Global Pay Cloud is the simplest. Each till is bound to its terminal through the cloud, so there is no cable to run and no IP address to keep track of. You enter your business credentials once, then bind each till to a terminal by its device reference. This is the route we suggest for most new set-ups.

Terminal Plus puts SeroPOS on the Global Payments T650P itself, so the handheld rings the sale, takes the card and prints the receipt. Existing set-ups can also keep a direct connection over the local network, where the till reaches the terminal by IP address, port and ECR ID.

  • Global Pay Cloud: no cable or IP address
  • Terminal Plus: SeroPOS on the T650P handheld
  • Existing option: direct network connection by IP, port and ECR ID

Taking a payment

Ring the sale as usual and choose card on the payment screen, with Debit or Credit as the card type. SeroPOS opens a Global Pay Payment dialog that shows the terminal's progress, from Processing to Approved, Declined, Not Completed or Failed. On approval the payment is recorded on the sale and the receipt prints with the card details and any tip.

A decline is hard to miss: the screen turns red, an alarm sounds and a decline slip prints automatically, so the cashier can show the customer what happened. From there, Retry with another card, Use Another Payment Method or Cancel Sale keep the order moving. Each option keeps the order intact, so nothing has to be rung up again.

When a tap does not go through

Card payments sometimes stall: the customer pulls the card too early, the network drops, or the terminal is slow to answer. The payment dialog is built for those moments. Cancel, Card Not Tapped Yet is for when nothing happened. Tap Card Again, Safe Retry asks the terminal to try once more. Check on Terminal reads the terminal's batch to see whether the card was in fact charged.

Behind that, SeroPOS records an approved card charge before it saves the sale, and replays it if the sale was not recorded. A duplicate-charge guard warns you if the same card is about to be charged the same amount moments after the last one. Together, these steps are there so a cashier under pressure does not charge the same customer twice.

  • Cancel, Card Not Tapped Yet
  • Tap Card Again, Safe Retry
  • Check on Terminal
  • Close, Keep Order
  • Retry, Try Another Card

Day-end and terminal tools

The terminal menu in the app bar gathers the tasks managers need at closing: Card Transaction History, Print Last Card Receipt, Print Batch Summary, Close Batch & Print Day-End Report, and Restart Terminal App. You can also close the batch from Settings, under Global Payments. Keeping these on the till means a manager does not have to work through the terminal's own menus at the end of a long night.

Card totals then match up with the cash register report and the daily sales report in SeroPOS, which list card, cash and other payments separately. If you add a credit card surcharge, set it per location from 0 to 2 percent, and it applies to credit cards only. That makes it easy to compare the till's card total with the batch you just closed.

Getting a Global Payments account

You need a merchant account with Global Payments and a supported terminal. If you already process with them, ask them to set the terminal up for a semi-integrated POS. If you are shopping for card processing, send us a recent processing statement and we'll quote a rate. Once the terminal is ready, you add it in the SeroPOS settings and run a test sale before opening.

SeroPOS also works with Moneris Go terminals and Gravity Payments terminals, so if you change processor later you keep the same till, menu and reports. Every one of them uses the same approach: the till sends the amount, the terminal takes the card, and the result comes back onto the sale. Your products, tables, staff and reports carry on unchanged, so a change of processor does not mean retraining your team.

Frequently asked questions

Which Global Payments terminals work with SeroPOS?

SeroPOS links to Global Payments terminals through Global Pay Cloud, or over your local network by IP address, port and ECR ID. The Global Payments T650P handheld can also run SeroPOS itself with Terminal Plus. Ask Global Payments to set your terminal up for a semi-integrated POS, then add it in SeroPOS settings.

What happens if the card tap stalls?

The payment dialog gives you recovery buttons instead of leaving you guessing. Check on Terminal reads the batch to see whether the card was charged, and Tap Card Again, Safe Retry tries again without double-charging. SeroPOS also keeps an approved charge on record before saving the sale, and warns you about a possible duplicate charge.

Can customers add a tip on the Global Payments terminal?

Yes, if your terminal is set up to prompt for tips. The tip the customer enters on the terminal comes back to SeroPOS with the approval and prints on the receipt as Tip / Gratuity. Tips also appear in the daily sales report, so they can be counted at the end of the shift.

How do I close the batch at the end of the day?

Open the terminal menu in the SeroPOS app bar and choose Close Batch & Print Day-End Report, or go to Settings, then Global Payments, then Close Batch. If you only want to check the totals, Print Batch Summary prints them without closing the batch.

Can SeroPOS get me a better processing rate?

Send us a recent card processing statement and we'll quote a rate. We work with Global Payments and Moneris in Canada, and the till works with Gravity Payments terminals too. There is no obligation, and your SeroPOS plan price is the same whichever processor you choose.
