POS for food trucks

A food truck sells from a different curb every day, through a window, on whatever signal the phone can find. SeroPOS runs on a phone or tablet with a Bluetooth printer, keeps ringing sales when the signal drops and catches up when it comes back.

What you get

Food trucks in SeroPOS

Phone or tablet till

Run SeroPOS on an iPhone, Android phone, iPad or Android tablet. Phones get a compact layout built for one hand.

Keeps selling offline

Sales save on the device when the signal drops and upload automatically when it returns. None are dropped.

Bluetooth printing

Pair a Bluetooth receipt printer for receipts and kitchen tickets, with no cables across the truck.

Integrated card terminal

Take cards on Global Payments, Moneris or Gravity terminals, or run SeroPOS on a Global Payments T650P handheld.

Event menus

Keep a short festival menu as its own POS menu and switch to it with one tap.

End-of-day report

The DSR shows sales, tips and payments by method for the day, ready to print or check once you are online.

A till that fits through the window

SeroPOS runs on phones as well as tablets. On a phone, the app uses a compact layout with a smaller toolbar, a bottom navigation bar for Home, Categories and Cart, and a draggable speed dial for the cash drawer, pay outs, held sales and clear. A tablet gives you the full order screen and, at tablet width or wider, the quick-service grid with pay buttons under the cart.

On the Global Payments T650P handheld, Terminal Plus lets SeroPOS run on the card terminal itself, so one device takes the order and the card. It uses the same compact layout as a phone. For a two-person truck, a tablet at the window and a phone for the line-buster both sign in to the same account and menu.

When the signal drops

Every sale is saved on the device first with a unique token, then uploaded in the background every 20 seconds. If the upload fails, SeroPOS backs off and keeps trying, and a sale that still cannot upload after repeated attempts is parked on the device rather than discarded. Kitchen tickets keep printing offline, and the online indicator in the app bar shows where you stand.

Card payments need the terminal to reach its processor, so plan on a phone hotspot or the terminal's own connection for cards. If an approved card charge is not recorded because the app lost its connection, SeroPOS replays it from its outbox and warns staff before the same card is charged twice. A few screens, like the DSR and Recent Transactions, need internet.

Menus for each stop

Lunch downtown, a brewery in the evening and a festival on Saturday rarely want the same menu. Build a POS menu for each from your categories, and when two or more exist, menu pills at the top of the till switch between them. Categories can also be hidden in the POS for a day when you run out of an ingredient, without deleting anything.

Modifiers handle the rest: sauce choices, extra cheese, make it a combo. A customer display on a second tablet facing the window can show the order and total as you ring it, served from a tablet till over the truck's own Wi-Fi with no internet needed, which cuts down on shouted corrections through the window.

Money at the end of the day

Open the register with your float when you park and close it with the counted cash when you pack up. Cash pay outs for ice or propane print a slip and appear on the report. Once you have signal, the DSR shows gross and net sales, tips, discounts, payouts, card surcharge and payments by method, and prints as a Z report on the Bluetooth printer.

The back office keeps every day's sales, the Register Report and the Expense Report, so you can see which stops paid off. Fuel, commissary fees and event fees can be entered as expenses by category with receipts attached, and the Profit and Loss report brings sales, cost of goods and expenses together for the month.

Frequently asked questions

Does SeroPOS work offline on a food truck?

Yes. Sales are saved on the device and uploaded when the connection returns, kitchen tickets keep printing and the app shows an offline indicator. Card payments still need the terminal to reach its processor. Reports and Recent Transactions need internet, so check them once you are back online.

Can I run my food truck POS on a phone?

Yes. SeroPOS runs on iPhone and Android phones with a compact layout and a speed dial for common actions. The quick-service grid and kiosk mode need a tablet-width screen, so many trucks use a tablet at the window and a phone as a second till.

What card reader works with a food truck?

SeroPOS connects to Global Payments terminals, Global Pay Cloud, Moneris Go and Gravity Payments terminals. On the Global Payments T650P handheld, SeroPOS can run on the terminal itself with Terminal Plus. Send us a statement and we'll quote a rate for your volume.

Can I print receipts without Wi-Fi?

Yes. Pair a Bluetooth receipt printer from Add/Edit Printer on the till. Receipts and kitchen tickets print over Bluetooth with no network. SeroPOS supports 58 mm and 80 mm paper on ESC/POS printers, and the Auto-detect button finds nearby Bluetooth printers for you.

How much does a food truck POS cost with SeroPOS?

Standard is $30 a month for one location and three users, with the full POS, kitchen tickets, receipt printing and standard reports. Card processing is separate, through your processor. Both Standard and Pro start with a 14-day free trial, no card needed.
