Tips on the till or on the terminal
Tips can be added wherever the customer decides to give one: typed in by staff at payment, added to a split share or a delivery, or entered by the customer on the card terminal.
Tips in SeroPOS
Tip at payment
The payment screen has a Tip field, and the payment details show the tip amount before you take payment.
Tip on each split
Every share in a split bill can carry its own tip.
Terminal tip prompts
If the Global Payments or Moneris terminal asks for a tip, it comes back to the till and prints.
Delivery tips
The QSR Delivery toggle adds a tip field beside the delivery charge.
Not discounted
An order discount in Adjust Order applies to the goods and tax, not the tip.
In end-of-day reports
The daily sales report shows total tips and tips by order type.
Where tips are entered
Customers tip in different ways, so SeroPOS accepts tips in several places. On the tablet payment screen, the Payment Details area shows a Tip Amount alongside the discount and final amount. On phones, the payment screen has a Tip field. In QSR Mode, Adjust Order has a tip field next to the discount, so a counter can add a tip before tapping a pay button.
Split bills give each share its own tip, so one guest can tip generously while another tips on their card. Phone and counter delivery orders in QSR Mode use the Delivery toggle, which adds a tip field beside the delivery charge. Wherever it is entered, the tip is stored with the sale and printed on the receipt.

- QSR Adjust Order: Tip
- Split bills: a tip per share
- QSR Delivery toggle: delivery tip
- Card terminal: customer-entered tip
Tips on the card terminal
Many restaurants prefer the customer to choose the tip on the card terminal. When your Global Payments or Moneris terminal is set to prompt for a tip, the customer picks or types it on the terminal and the approved total, including the tip, comes back to SeroPOS. The tip prints on the receipt as Tip or Gratuity and is recorded with the sale.
Tip presets and the prompt itself are configured on the terminal, not in SeroPOS. For Moneris, the till's settings show the terminal behaviour synced from Moneris, including whether the tip prompt is on and which presets it uses, so you can check the setup without leaving the till. Change the prompt with your processor if you want it on or off.
Tips, discounts and charges
Tips are kept apart from what the customer is buying. An order discount entered in Adjust Order applies to the goods and tax but not the tip, so a 10 percent discount never reduces a server's tip. Card surcharges and delivery charges are recorded separately again, so each figure on the receipt means one thing.
SeroPOS does not add tips on its own. There are no percentage tip buttons in the app and no automatic gratuity. If you add a set service charge for large parties or catering, use a service or packing charge on the type of service, which is recorded and reported as a charge rather than as a tip.
Reporting tips
The daily sales report in the app shows a Tips card with the period's total, and its Orders by Type section breaks tips down by dine-in, take away and delivery. The thermal Z report printed at the end of the day carries the same figures, which makes cash-up and tip-out conversations straightforward.
The back office daily sales report has a Tips section too, and its tips can be exported with the rest of the report as a PDF or sent by email. If you use waiter mode, each order carries its server, so you can match tips to the person who served the table when sharing them out.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add a tip to a sale in SeroPOS?
Type the tip in the Tip field on the payment screen before taking payment. In QSR Mode, open Adjust and enter the tip there. If your card terminal prompts for tips, the customer can add it on the terminal instead and it comes back to the till automatically.
Can customers add a tip on the card terminal?
Yes, with Global Payments and Moneris terminals set to prompt for a tip. The customer chooses the tip on the terminal, the approved amount including the tip returns to SeroPOS, and the tip prints on the receipt as Tip or Gratuity.
Does SeroPOS have tip percentage buttons?
Not in the app. Staff type the tip amount, or the customer chooses on the card terminal, where tip presets are set up in the terminal's own settings. For Moneris, the till shows the terminal's tip prompt and presets as synced from Moneris.
Can I add an automatic gratuity for large groups?
SeroPOS has no automatic gratuity. If you charge a set fee for large parties or catering, set up a type of service with a fixed or percentage service charge. It is added to every order of that type and reported as a charge, separate from tips.
Where can I see total tips for the day?
Open the daily sales report from the side drawer. The Tips card shows the total for the period, and Orders by Type splits tips by dine-in, take away and delivery. Print it as the Z report, or use the back office report to download a PDF.
