Waiter mode: every order tied to a server

With Multiple User switched on, every order in SeroPOS belongs to a named server, so you always know who took a table, who is holding which tab and who earned which tips.

What you get

Waiter mode in SeroPOS

Staff picker

The till opens on a full-page list of service staff, each with a count of their open orders.

Tap to claim

Tapping a name makes that person the waiter on the next order.

Service staff roles

Turn on Service staff on a role, such as Waiter, and everyone with that role appears in the picker.

Waiter on every order

Held Sales cards and the table view show which waiter owns each order.

Back to the picker

Clearing the screen after a sale returns the till to the staff list for the next person.

Service staff report

The back office reports orders and line orders for each member of service staff.

One till, many servers

In a full-service restaurant or a bar, several servers share one or two tills. Without a way to tell their orders apart, tabs get mixed up and nobody knows who should close a table. Waiter mode solves this by asking who is ordering before each order starts. It is a single switch in Settings called Multiple User.

When it is on, the tablet till opens on a Select Waiter page instead of the home screen. The page lists every member of service staff with a count of their open orders. The server taps their own name, starts or resumes their order, and the order is recorded against them from the first item to the final payment.

Setting it up

Waiter mode needs at least one service staff user. In the Admin hub, open Users & Roles, then Roles, and create or edit a role such as Waiter. Turn on Service staff so people with this role can be assigned to orders as the serving waiter, and tick the permissions they need. Then give each server a user with that role.

Next, open Settings from the side drawer and turn on Multiple User. If no service staff user exists yet, SeroPOS will not let the setting take effect, so create the role and users first. Each user gets their own login handle and password, and a hand-over card on the user screen shows the details to pass on.

During service

After each sale is finished or the screen is cleared, the till returns to the staff picker, ready for the next person. Servers can see at a glance how many orders they have open. On the floor plan each busy table shows its waiter, and Held Sales cards show the waiter too, so a manager can find every open tab for a server who is about to leave.

Orders keep their waiter when held, resumed or moved between tills in server and client mode. Combined with role permissions, waiter mode also controls what each server can do: a server can hold orders and print bills, while payment, refunds or discounts can stay with a manager or cashier role.

Reports by server

Because every order carries a waiter, the back office can report by server. The Service Staff Report shows the orders and line orders for each member of service staff over a date range, which helps with section planning, performance conversations and checking who sold what during a busy shift. Pair it with the daily sales report to compare each server's orders with the day's totals.

Tips entered at payment or on the card terminal are stored with the sale, so the order's waiter and its tip stay linked. The back office also has an Orders screen for service staff, where they can see their own orders and mark them or individual lines as served, which suits restaurants that run food from a pass.

Frequently asked questions

How do I turn on waiter mode in SeroPOS?

First create a role with Service staff turned on, in Admin under Users & Roles, and add a user with that role for each server. Then open Settings from the side drawer and turn on Multiple User. The till then opens on a staff picker before each order.

Why can't I turn on Multiple User?

Multiple User needs at least one service staff user. Create a role such as Waiter, turn on Service staff for it, and assign it to at least one user. Run Sync DataBase from the side drawer if the till does not see the new user straight away.

Can I see sales by waiter?

Yes. The back office Service Staff Report lists orders and line orders for each member of service staff over the dates you choose. Held Sales and the table view on the till also show the waiter on every open order during service.

Does each server need their own login?

Each server needs a user so their name appears in the picker and on reports. They tap their name to start an order, so they do not have to log the whole till in and out between orders. Each user has its own login details for the app and back office.

Does waiter mode cost extra?

No. Multiple User is a setting in the app on both plans, but each server counts as a user. Standard includes 3 users and Pro includes 5. Extra users are added 3 at a time for $10 a month, so a larger floor team stays affordable.
