A kitchen screen in any browser
The web back office has its own kitchen screen that opens in any browser. Point a spare PC or a wall-mounted screen at it and the kitchen sees live orders and marks them cooked.

The screen refreshes itself, and a refresh button pulls new orders straight away.

Cooked orders show as ready on the Orders screen that service staff use.
Permission controlled
The Kitchen module and role permissions decide who can open the screen.
When a browser screen is the right fit
Most SeroPOS kitchens that want a screen use KDS Mode in the app, on a tablet. The web kitchen screen covers a different case: you already have a PC or a smart display in the kitchen, or you want a second screen at the pass without installing the app. Sign in to the back office, open Kitchen from the sidebar, and leave the page up.
Because it is a web page, the only requirement is a browser and an internet connection. Nothing needs installing on the kitchen machine. It also suits a business trying a kitchen screen for the first time, because a spare computer and a browser are all it takes to see whether the team likes cooking from a screen rather than paper.
How cooks use it
The kitchen screen lists live orders sent from the tills, with the items on each. Cooks work through them and press Mark as cooked when an order is done. The page refreshes itself during service, and the refresh button pulls in new orders immediately if someone wants to check. It suits a small kitchen well.
Marking an order cooked feeds the Orders screen that servers use, where each server sees which of their orders are ready to take out. That closes the loop between the kitchen and the floor without anyone shouting order numbers. Servers can then mark the dishes as served from their own list.
- Back office sidebar › Kitchen
- Watch live orders arrive
- Press Mark as cooked when the food is up
- Servers see it ready on their Orders screen
Turning it on
The kitchen screen belongs to the Kitchen module, which is switched on in Business Settings › Modules under Kitchen (for restaurant). Once it is on, the Kitchen item appears in the back office sidebar for users whose role allows it. The screen is part of the SeroPOS product, so it shows only on POS businesses.
If the kitchen browser stays signed in all day, give it its own user with a narrow role, so the machine on the line cannot reach settings or other staff members' work. Keeping a separate kitchen user also means you can sign it out from the back office or change its password without affecting anyone else on the team.
Web kitchen screen or KDS Mode
KDS Mode in the app is the fuller kitchen display. It has ticket timers, station filters, line-by-line ticking, the All Day panel and Recall. The web kitchen screen is simpler: a live list and a cooked button. Many kitchens use KDS Mode on the line and the web screen for an expo station or a back-office view.
Both work alongside printed kitchen tickets, so you can move from paper to screens one station at a time. Start with the station that struggles most with paper, see how the team gets on, and then decide whether the rest of the kitchen should follow. There is no need to change everything on the same night.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the web kitchen screen?
Sign in to the SeroPOS web back office and choose Kitchen in the left sidebar. If you don't see it, turn on the Kitchen module in Business Settings › Modules and check that your role has access. The Kitchen item only appears on SeroPOS businesses.
Do I need to install anything on the kitchen computer?
No. The web kitchen screen runs in a browser, so any PC, laptop or smart display with a current browser and an internet connection will do. Sign in with a user whose role allows the kitchen screen. There is no app to install or update on that machine.
What happens when an order is marked as cooked?
The order's status changes, and the server who owns it sees it as ready on the Orders screen in the back office. They can then mark lines or the whole order as served. Servers know to collect the food without waiting for a call from the pass.
How is this different from KDS Mode?
KDS Mode runs inside the SeroPOS app on a tablet or desktop and adds ticket timers, station filters, line ticking, All Day totals and Recall. The web kitchen screen is a simpler list in the browser with a Mark as cooked button.
Does the web kitchen screen work offline?
No. It is part of the web back office, so it needs an internet connection. If your connection is unreliable, printed kitchen tickets from the till keep working offline. KDS Mode in the app also runs on the till's own data, so it keeps the board current on your local network.
