Stock report with stock value
The stock report lists what you have on hand for each product and what that stock is worth, both at what you paid for it and at what you'll sell it for, with the potential profit worked out.

Every stock-managed product and variation is listed with the quantity on hand.

The gap between the two values is shown as potential profit, with a profit margin percentage.
Filter by category or brand
Narrow the list by location, category, sub-category, brand or unit.
Permission for values

Stock on hand and what it's worth
Open Reports, then Stock Report, and choose a location. Each product that has Manage Stock turned on appears with its current stock. Alongside the quantities, the report works out closing stock value twice: once at purchase price and once at sale price. Pick a category or brand as well if you only want part of the stock.
The difference between those two values is the potential profit, the margin you'd make if everything on hand sold at its current price. The profit margin percentage puts that on a common scale, so a cheap, fast-moving item and an expensive slow one can be compared fairly. Run it after each big delivery to see how the stock value moves.

Filtering the report
A full stock list for a busy store is long. Filter by category and sub-category to count one aisle at a time, by brand when a supplier rep visits, or by unit when you want to see everything sold by the kilo. The location filter keeps each store's stock separate, which matters when you transfer stock between them.
The same stock figures are available from Products, List Products, on its Stock Report tab, which suits staff who work in the product list all day. Both views read the same quantities, so they always agree. Staff can use it to check a quantity while they're already editing a product, without opening the Reports menu.
When a quantity looks wrong
If a product's stock doesn't match the shelf, the product's stock history shows every movement behind the number: opening stock, purchases, returns, adjustments, transfers in and out, and sales. The product stock details view compares the calculated quantity with the available quantity and offers a fix when they differ. It is reached from the product screens.
Once you've counted, record the difference with a stock adjustment, marked normal or abnormal with a reason. That keeps the stock report accurate and gives the stock adjustment report a record of what was written off. Adjustments made this way show up straight away on the stock report, so a recount on Monday is reflected the moment it's saved.
Using stock value for decisions
Closing stock value at purchase price is the figure your accountant asks for at year end, and it feeds the opening and closing stock lines on the profit and loss report. Running the stock report on the last day of each month gives you a trail of how much cash is tied up in inventory.
For reordering, pair it with low stock alerts. Each product can have an alert quantity, and the back office dashboard lists products that have dropped below it. The stock report tells you what you hold, the alert tells you what needs buying next. Each product can also carry a reorder quantity and lead time on its product form.
Frequently asked questions
What is an inventory valuation report?
It shows the value of the stock you hold on a given day. The SeroPOS stock report values current stock at purchase price, which is what you paid, and at sale price, which is what you'd take in if it all sold. The difference is shown as potential profit.
How do I find my closing stock value?
Run the stock report for the location on the last day of the period and read the closing stock value by purchase price. The same figure appears as closing stock on the profit and loss report for that date range, so the two reports agree.
Why can't some staff see stock values?
Stock values are protected by a permission. In User Management, Roles, the report permissions include viewing product stock value. Users whose role doesn't have it can still see quantities, but not the cost and sale values, which keeps your margins private.
Can I see stock for each store separately?
Yes. Use the location filter to show one store's stock and values, or run it for each location in turn. Stock transfers between locations move quantities from one store's figures to the other's. Choose all locations to see stock across the business.
Which products appear on the stock report?
Products with Manage Stock turned on. Items you don't track, such as made-to-order dishes or services, have no quantity to report. Turn on Manage Stock on the product form for anything you want counted, then add opening stock so it starts from the right number.
