Track product expiry dates

Track expiry dates for perishable stock by turning on Enable Product Expiry in Settings › Setting › Product. Choose Add item expiry to enter dates directly, or Add manufacturing date & expiry period to enter the MFG Date and let SeroPOS work out the expiry. Then set On Product Expiry to Keep Selling or Stop Selling n days before. Purchases and opening stock then ask for dates, and the Dashboard and Stock Expiry Report warn you before stock goes off.

Steps

  1. Open the Product tab. In the sidebar, open Settings › Setting and click the Product tab.
  2. Turn on expiry. Tick Enable Product Expiry and choose Add item expiry or Add manufacturing date & expiry period.
  3. Choose what happens at expiry. Set On Product Expiry to Keep Selling, or Stop Selling n days before and enter the number of days.

  5. Set expiry periods on products. On each perishable product, set Expires in with Months or Days. Leave it Not Applicable for items that don't expire.

  7. Set the alert window. On the Dashboard tab of Settings › Setting, set how many days ahead Stock Expiry Alert should warn you.

Keeping track

The Dashboard's Stock Expiry Alert lists stock expiring within your window. The Stock Expiry Report shows what's left of each batch with its dates, and you write off expired units with a stock adjustment. Turn on lot numbers too if you need to trace batches.

Frequently asked questions

How do I stop selling expired stock?

Set On Product Expiry to Stop Selling n days before and enter a number, such as 2. Stock within that many days of its expiry date can no longer be sold, and the sale screen reports that available stock has expired.

What's the difference between the two expiry methods?

Add item expiry asks for the expiry date on each purchase. Add manufacturing date & expiry period asks for the MFG Date and uses the product's Expires in period to work out the expiry date for you.
