Set the stock expiry alert window in SeroPOS

The Dashboard tab of Business Settings sets how far ahead the back office dashboard warns you about stock that is about to expire. Open Settings › Setting (/business/settings), click Dashboard, enter the number of days in View Stock Expiry Alert For and click Update Settings. Product expiry must be on in the Product tab for the alert to have anything to show.

Steps

  1. Open the Business Settings page. In the back office sidebar, open Settings and click Setting. This is the Business Settings page at /business/settings, with its tabs down the left and a search box at the top.
  2. Click the Dashboard tab. Dashboard is the ninth tab in the list on the left.
  3. Enter the alert window. In View Stock Expiry Alert For, type the number of Days ahead to warn you, for example 30.
  4. Click Update Settings. Click Update Settings at the bottom of the page. Every tab on this page saves together, so finish any other tab you changed before you click.
  5. Check the dashboard. Open Home. The stock expiry alert lists the stock that expires within that window, by product and location.

Choosing the number of days

Pick a window long enough to act on. A bakery or deli may want 3 to 7 days so it can discount stock before it spoils; a pharmacy or shop with long-dated stock may prefer 60 or 90 days so it can return items to suppliers.

The alert reads the expiry dates entered on purchases and opening stock. If those dates are blank, nothing appears. For a full list with filters, use the stock expiry report.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the stock expiry alert empty?

Either no stock expires inside the window, or expiry isn't being recorded. Check that Enable Product Expiry is ticked on the Product tab and that your purchases have expiry dates on their lines. Then widen View Stock Expiry Alert For to test.

Can each location have its own alert window?

No. The number of days is one setting for the whole business. The alert itself lists stock by location, so each store can still see its own items.
