Steps
- Open the Business Settings page. In the back office sidebar, open Settings and click Setting. This is the Business Settings page at /business/settings, with its tabs down the left and a search box at the top.
- Click the Tax tab. Tax is the third tab in the list on the left.
- Enter Tax 1. Type the tax's name in Tax 1 Name, for example GST or GST/HST, and your registration number in Tax 1 No.
- Enter Tax 2 if you have one. If you also collect a provincial or state tax, type its name in Tax 2 Name, for example PST or QST, and its number in Tax 2 No. Leave both blank if you only collect one tax.
- Decide on inline tax. Tick Enable inline tax in purchase and sell to show and edit the tax on each line of a purchase or sale, rather than only on the order total.
- Click Update Settings. Click Update Settings at the bottom of the page. Every tab on this page saves together, so finish any other tab you changed before you click.
Tax names and numbers versus tax rates
This tab only records who you are registered with and your numbers, so they can print on invoices. It does not decide how much tax is charged. The percentages live under Settings › Tax Rates, and two rates can be combined into a tax group.
To print the numbers, open your invoice layout and tick Tax 1 details and Tax 2 details under Fields for Tax details.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I enter my GST number in SeroPOS?
Open Settings › Setting, click the Tax tab and type it in Tax 1 No., with GST or GST/HST as the Tax 1 Name. Then tick Tax 1 details in your invoice layout so the number prints on receipts and invoices.
Does this tab set the tax percentage?
No. The Tax tab only stores tax names and registration numbers. Create each percentage, such as GST 5%, under Settings › Tax Rates and set it on your products, or combine rates like GST and PST into a tax group.
