Steps
- Create the individual rates first. Each part of the group must exist as a tax rate under Settings › Tax Rates, for example GST 5% and PST 7%.
- Open Tax groups. On the Tax Rates page, scroll to Tax groups: combination of multiple taxes.
- Click Add. Click Add in the Tax groups section to open Add tax group.
- Name the group. Enter a Name, such as GST + PST.
- Pick the Sub taxes. Under Sub taxes, select each rate the group combines. The group's rate is the total of its sub taxes, 12% in this example.
- Save and use it. Click Save. Edit your products and pick the group as their tax, or set it as the Default Sale Tax.
How tax groups show on invoices and reports
The sale charges each sub tax separately, so the tax report can show GST and PST as separate amounts for filing. Tick Tax 1 details and Tax 2 details in your invoice layout to print both registration numbers.
Rates used only inside a group can be marked For tax group only, which keeps them out of the product tax list on their own.
Frequently asked questions
Can a product have two taxes in SeroPOS?
Yes. Combine the two rates into a tax group under Settings › Tax Rates › Tax groups and set the group as the product's tax. Both taxes are charged on the sale and reported separately.
What happens if a sub tax rate changes?
Edit the rate under Settings › Tax Rates. Groups that include it use the new percentage for sales from then on. Sales already made keep the tax they were charged with.
