Steps
- Open Units. In the sidebar, open Products and click Units, then click Add.
- Name the unit. Enter the Name, such as Kilogram, and a Short name, such as kg, which shows on screens and receipts.
- Allow decimals. Set Allow decimal to Yes for weight, volume or length. Leave No for items sold whole.
- Make a sub-unit. To create a pack size, tick Add as multiple of other unit, choose the base unit and enter how many base units it holds, such as 1 Case = 12 Pieces.
- Save. Click Save.
- Use it on products. On Add Product, choose the Unit and pick which Related Sub Units apply. Leave sub-units blank to allow them all.
Sub-units need a setting
Turn on Enable Sub Units in Settings › Setting › Product to choose sub-units on products, purchases and sales. You can then buy by the case on a purchase and sell by the piece at the till, and stock is kept in the base unit.
Limits
A unit used by products can't be deleted. Editing a multiple, such as changing a case from 12 to 24, changes purchase and sales stock to match, so set it right before you start trading.
Frequently asked questions
How do I sell by weight?
Create a unit such as kg with Allow decimal set to Yes, use it on the product, and tick Enable Weight (sold by weight). The SeroPOS app then asks for the weight, or reads it from a connected scale.
Can I buy by the case and sell by the piece?
Yes. Create Case as a multiple of Pieces, turn on Enable Sub Units, and select Case as a related sub-unit on the product. Choose Case on the purchase and Pieces at the till; stock is kept in pieces.
