Steps
- Open Add Product. In the sidebar, open Products and click Add Product.
- Name and code it. Enter the Product Name. Leave SKU blank to auto generate one with your SKU prefix, or type your own. Pick a Barcode Type such as Code 128 or EAN-13 for printed labels.
- Classify it. Choose the Unit (and any Related Sub Units), Brand, Category and Sub category, and tick the Business Locations where it is sold.
- Set stock tracking. Leave Manage Stock? ticked for physical goods and enter an Alert quantity. Untick it for services. Lead time (days) and Reorder quantity help with reordering.
- Add the details. Add a Warranty, Product Description, Product image (upload one or use Select Stock Image) and brochure. Set Food Type and Diet Type(s) for menu items, and an Expiry Period if you track expiry.
- Set special options. Tick Enable Weight (sold by weight) for loose goods, Enable Product description, IMEI or Serial Number for electronics, or Not for selling for items you stock but don't sell.
- Set tax and type. Choose the Applicable Tax and Selling Price Tax Type: Inclusive or Exclusive. Set Product Type to Single, Variable or Combo.
- Enter prices. For a single product, enter the Default Purchase Price (Exc. tax or Inc. tax), the x Margin(%) and the Default Selling Price. Changing one recalculates the others.
- Save. Click Save, or Save & Add Opening Stock, Save & Add Selling-Price-Group Prices or Save And Add Another.
Fields that appear only when turned on
Some fields show only after you enable them in Settings › Setting › Product: brands, categories and sub-categories, sub-units, racks, rows and positions per location, warranty and product expiry. If a field described here is missing, check that tab.
Tips
For an open-price item, create one product called Miscellaneous. The margin uses your default profit percent from the Details tab unless you change it. Weighed items read the weight from a connected scale in the SeroPOS app, or ask for it to be typed.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between inclusive and exclusive tax?
With Inclusive, the selling price you enter already contains tax, as is common in hospitality. With Exclusive, tax is added on top at the till. Pick the one that matches the price on your menu or shelf tag.
Do I need to enter an SKU?
No. Leave SKU blank and SeroPOS generates a unique one using the SKU prefix from Settings › Setting › Product. Enter your own if the item already has a supplier code or barcode you scan.
How do I add a product with sizes?
Set Product Type to Variable and add a variation such as Size, with a price per size. Each size gets its own sub-SKU, price and stock. Variation templates save you retyping the same values.
