Set up units in the SeroPOS app

Units say how a product is counted and printed on the receipt, such as Pieces (Pc), Kilogram (Kg) or Litre. Open Admin › Units and tap + Add Unit, enter the Unit name and Short name, and turn on Allow decimal quantities for anything sold by weight or volume. For a larger unit, such as a case of 10, use Made of (for a larger unit) to say what it is made of and how many. Tap Save.

Add a unit; allow decimals for items sold by weight.

Steps

  1. Open Units. Open the drawer, tap Admin, and under Catalog tap Units.
  2. Add a unit. Tap + Add Unit and type the Unit name, for example Kilogram.
  3. Set the short name. Type the Short name printed on receipts, for example Kg.
  4. Allow decimals if needed. Turn on Allow decimal quantities for units sold in fractions, such as 0.5 Kg. Leave it off for items sold whole.
  5. Link a larger unit. For a unit such as Case, choose the smaller unit in Made of (for a larger unit) and enter how many make one, for example 10. Leave it as Its own unit for a base unit.
  6. Save. Tap Save. The list shows each unit with Decimal quantities allowed or Whole quantities only.

Good to know

Create your units before your products, because each product needs one. Weighed items need a unit that allows decimals; the weight then comes from a connected scale or is typed on the keypad. A larger unit made of a smaller one, such as Case = 10 × Each, helps when you buy by the case and sell by the piece.

  • The number in Made of must be above 0 and not 1.
  • Deleting a unit can't be undone.
  • Unit names must be unique.

Frequently asked questions

How do I sell by the kilogram?

Create a unit such as Kilogram (Kg) with Allow decimal quantities on, and assign it to the product. Staff can then sell 0.75 Kg, or read the weight from a connected scale.
