Steps
- Plug in the scale. Connect the scale to the till by USB or by serial cable and switch it on. On an Android tablet use a USB OTG adapter.
- Open the scale screen. Open the drawer and tap Add Weighing Scale. The Weighing Scale screen shows No scale connected until you pick one.
- Find the scale. Detected scales lists USB scales and serial ports (COM ports on Windows). If yours is missing, tap Scan again.
- Connect it. Tap Connect on your scale. The status changes to Scale connected.
- Check the live reading. Put something on the platter. The weight in the live reading panel should change. If it does not move or the number looks wrong, the scale may be asleep or set to a different mode.
- Set the unit. Under Units, choose the unit your weighed products are priced in. If your serial scale sends a bare number with no unit, set Serial scales that send no unit to the unit it uses.
- Sell a weighed item. On the POS screen, add a product set up as a weighed item. The weight comes from the scale, and the keypad is still there if you need to type a weight.
Which scales and devices work
SeroPOS reads USB POS scales that report weight as a standard HID device, and serial scales using common protocols such as CAS and Aclas, Mettler MT-SICS and continuous output. Serial scales use the usual 8-N-1 settings at the baud rate the scale is set to.
Scales work on Windows, Mac and Android tills. iPhone, iPad and phones without USB host support cannot read a scale, so weights are typed on the keypad there.

Frequently asked questions
Why don't I see Add Weighing Scale in the drawer?
The row is hidden until weighing is turned on for your business. Once weighed products are enabled, the row appears between Add/Edit Printer and the other drawer items.
The scale is connected but the weight stays at zero.
Many scales go to sleep. If the screen says Scale asleep, press the scale's power button and the till picks it up again. Also check the scale is in its normal weighing mode and not counting or tare mode.
Can I still sell weighed items without a scale?
Yes. The manual weight keypad is always available, so staff can type the weight from any scale, and the price is worked out the same way.
