Steps
- Open the Business Settings page. In the back office sidebar, open Settings and click Setting. This is the Business Settings page at /business/settings, with its tabs down the left and a search box at the top.
- Click the POS tab and enable the scale. On the POS tab, tick Enable Weighing Scale under POS settings.
- Find the barcode settings. Scroll to Weighing Scale barcode Setting. The help text reads: configure barcode as per your weighing scale.
- Enter the prefix. Type the digits your scale puts at the start of every label barcode, often 2 or 21. Check your scale's manual or a printed label.
- Enter the SKU length. Set Product sku length (1 to 9) to the number of digits after the prefix that identify the product. Those digits must match the product's SKU in SeroPOS.
- Enter the quantity digits. Set Quantity integer part length (1 to 5) for the whole number of the weight, and Quantity fractional part length (1 to 4) for the decimals. For 1.250 kg printed as 01250, use 2 and 3.
- Click Update Settings. Click Update Settings at the bottom of the page. Every tab on this page saves together, so finish any other tab you changed before you click.
- Check a test label. Print a label for a product whose SKU and weight you know and check its digits against the lengths you entered.
Working out your label format
Print a label for a product whose SKU and weight you know, then read the barcode digits. For example, 21 00042 01250 7 is the prefix 21, the SKU 00042, a weight of 01.250 and a check digit at the end. That label needs Prefix 21, Product sku length 5, Quantity integer part length 2 and Quantity fractional part length 3.
The product's SKU in SeroPOS must be the same digits the scale uses, including leading zeros.
App and back office
These settings live in the web back office only. The SeroPOS app does not scan scale-printed labels: at the till, products with Enable Weight take their weight from a connected scale or from the keypad. See Connect a weighing scale and Sell weighed items for that setup.
Frequently asked questions
Why does a scale label add the wrong product?
The Product sku length or the prefix probably doesn't match the label. Read the digits on a printed label, count how many belong to the SKU and check the product's SKU in SeroPOS uses exactly those digits, leading zeros included.
Can the barcode carry a price instead of a weight?
The settings read the digits after the SKU as a quantity, split into an integer part and a fractional part. Set your scale to print the weight in that position. If your scale only prints price-embedded labels, check whether it can switch to weight mode.
