Steps
- Connect the scanner. Plug a USB scanner into the till, or pair a Bluetooth scanner in the device settings. Set it to keyboard mode (sometimes called HID or keyboard wedge) if it has a choice.
- Test it. Scan a barcode into any text field. If the number appears followed by a new line, the scanner is ready.
- Open the POS screen. Start an order so the POS screen with the product search field is showing.
- Scan an item. With the cursor in the search field, scan the product. An exact SKU match adds it to the cart.
- Fix a miss. If nothing is added, the barcode does not match any SKU. Search by name to sell the item, and add the barcode as the product's SKU in Admin › Products afterwards.
- Use the camera. On a phone or tablet without a scanner, tap the scan icon to use the camera instead.
Getting barcodes to match
SeroPOS matches the scanned code against each product's SKU. If your products came with manufacturer barcodes, enter the barcode number as the SKU when you add or import the product. Products added without an SKU get one automatically, which you can replace with the barcode number later.
Scanning looks up products in the catalogue, so keep the till synced after adding new items. Use Drawer › Sync DataBase if a new product will not scan.
Frequently asked questions
Which barcode scanners work with SeroPOS?
Any scanner that types the code like a keyboard, which covers most USB and Bluetooth retail scanners. No driver or setting in SeroPOS is needed. Scanners that need their own software to send codes are not supported.
The scanner beeps but nothing goes into the cart.
Check the cursor is in the POS search field and that the barcode is saved as the product's SKU exactly, including leading zeros. If you just added the product, sync the database so the till has it.
