Search and scan products in SeroPOS

On the POS screen, type in the search field to find products by name or SKU and tap a result to add it. A USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner that types like a keyboard works in the same field: when the scanned code exactly matches a SKU, SeroPOS adds the item straight to the cart. You can also scan with the device camera.

The sale screen: categories, products, search and scan, and the cart side by side.

Steps

  1. Open the POS. Start an order from Home so the POS screen with the product grid is showing.
  2. Tap the search field. Tap Search products... at the top of the product panel.
  3. Type a name or SKU. Type part of the product name or its SKU. Matching products fill the grid.
  4. Tap the product. Tap a result to add it. Variations and modifiers are asked for as usual.
  5. Or scan the barcode. With the cursor in the search field, scan the item. An exact SKU match goes straight into the cart.
  6. Clear the search. Clear the field to return to the category grid.

Getting scans to match

A scan only adds the item automatically when the barcode is exactly the product's SKU. Set the SKU to the barcode printed on the packaging in Admin › Products or in the back office. If the SKU is left blank when you create a product, SeroPOS generates one, which won't match a manufacturer barcode.

Most USB scanners send an Enter after the code, which is what SeroPOS expects. Bluetooth scanners in keyboard mode work the same way.

Frequently asked questions

My scanner types the code but nothing is added.

The code doesn't exactly match any SKU. Check the product's SKU in Admin › Products and make sure it's the full barcode, including leading zeros. Also make sure the cursor is in the search field when you scan.

Can I search by category?

The search looks at product names and SKUs. To browse by category, clear the search and tap a category on the left. In QSR Mode the search bar can be shown or hidden in QSR Settings.
