Choose a variation when selling

When a product comes in sizes or options, tapping it opens Select Variation with the prompt Choose a size or option. Tap the variation you want, such as Small or Large, and it goes into the cart at that variation's price. On a tablet, Skip Selection adds the product without choosing. In QSR Mode each variation has its own button, such as Burger - L, so there is no extra step.

Choose a size or option.

Steps

  1. Tap the product. Tap a product that has variations on the POS screen.
  2. Read the options. Select Variation lists each option with its price.
  3. Tap an option. Tap the size or option the customer wants. It's added to the cart.
  4. Skip if needed. On a tablet, tap Skip Selection to add the product without a variation, or Cancel to add nothing.
  5. Add modifiers. If the product also has modifiers, the modifier sheet opens next.

Setting up variations

Variations come from Variation Groups, for example Size with Small, Medium and Large. Create the group in Admin › Variation Groups, then choose With variations on the product and set a price for each one. Each variation has its own price.

In QSR Mode, every variation shows as a separate button on the grid, named product - variation. That saves a tap at the counter.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change the variation after it's in the cart?

Remove the line from the cart and add the product again with the right variation. You can change the price, discount or note on a line in Edit Item, but not swap the variation.

What's the difference between a variation and a modifier?

A variation is a version of the product with its own price, such as Small or Large; the customer picks one. A modifier is an add-on, such as extra cheese, added on top; the customer can pick several.
