Steps
- Connect the scale. Open the drawer and tap Add Weighing Scale. Connect a USB, serial or network scale and check the live reading.
- Set the product up for weight. Make sure the product is set up to sell by weight, priced per unit such as per kg.
- Put the item on the scale. Place the item on the scale, then tap the product on the POS.
- Check the weight. The weight is read and added as the quantity, for example 1.457 kg.
- Enter it by hand if asked. If you see Put the item on the scale, or enter the weight., type the weight on the keypad and confirm.
- Take payment. The line total is the weight times the price per unit.
Scales and platforms
Weighing scale support is turned on for the business; until then the Add Weighing Scale menu item is hidden. Scales work on Windows, Mac and Android (USB OTG). There's no scale support on iPhone or iPad, but you can always type the weight.
Network scales are bound to one till, so each counter reads its own scale.
Frequently asked questions
Can I sell by weight without a scale?
Yes. When there's no scale, SeroPOS opens the keypad and asks for the weight. Type it with decimals, for example 0.75, and the line is priced from the weight. A weighed line won't sell with the placeholder quantity of 1; you have to enter a weight.
Which scales work with SeroPOS?
USB HID postal and retail scales, and serial scales using common retail protocols, connected by USB or RS-232, or a serial scale on the network through a serial server. See the scale setup articles for the details for your platform.
