Add a network scale

A scale on your network is usually an RS-232 scale plugged into a serial-to-network adapter. Open Drawer › Add Weighing Scale, go to Add a network scale, enter the adapter's IP address and port (often 4001, 10001 or 8000), tap Test, then Add network scale. A network scale is read by one till at a time, so add it on the till next to the platter.

Steps

  1. Set up the adapter. Connect the scale's serial port to a serial-to-network adapter and plug the adapter into your network. Note the IP address printed on or set in the adapter.
  2. Open the scale screen. On the till that sits next to the scale, open the drawer and tap Add Weighing Scale.
  3. Enter the address. In Add a network scale, type the IP address or host and the Port. Common adapters use 4001 or 10001, and some use 8000.
  4. Test it. Tap Test and put something on the platter. The reading should follow the weight.
  5. Add it to this till. Tap Add network scale. The scale is now bound to this till.
  6. Move it later if needed. If the scale moves to another counter, add it on the new till. That moves it off the old one.

Why one till per scale

SeroPOS lets only one till read a network scale at a time. If two cashiers read the same platter they could charge two customers for one weight, so adding the scale on a second till moves it there instead of sharing it.

The till and adapter must be on the same local network. Give the adapter a fixed IP address so the till can always find it after a power cut.

Frequently asked questions

What port should I enter?

Use the raw TCP port configured in your serial-to-network adapter. Many use 4001 or 10001 by default and some use 8000. The adapter's web page or manual shows the port.

Can two tills share one network scale?

No. A network scale is bound to one till so two sales are never weighed against the same platter. Add it on whichever till stands next to it; doing so moves it from the previous till.
