Connect a network printer

A network printer, connected by Ethernet or Wi-Fi, is the most reliable choice for kitchens and busy counters because every till on the network can reach it. In SeroPOS open Drawer › Add/Edit Printer › Add printer, choose Network Printer, enter the printer's IP Address and Port 9100, run Test Printer and save.

Choose Network, then enter the printer's IP address and port.

Steps

  1. Find the printer's IP address. Connect the printer to your router or switch and print its self-test page (usually by holding the feed button while switching it on). Note the IP address it shows.
  2. Open Add/Edit Printer. In SeroPOS, open the drawer, tap Add/Edit Printer, then Add printer.
  3. Choose Network Printer. Pick Network Printer, marked Recommended (Wi-Fi / LAN printer reached by IP address), and tap Continue.
  4. Enter the address. Type a Printer Name, the IP Address from the self-test page, and the Port. The default is 9100, which suits almost every receipt printer.
  5. Set format and paper. Keep Print Format on ESC-POS unless your printer needs Non ESC-POS, and pick 58 mm or 80 mm.
  6. Test and save. Tap Test Printer. When the slip prints, tap Save Printer. For a kitchen printer, map it to a station in KOT Mapping next.

Keep the address from changing

Most routers hand out addresses that can change after a power cut, and a printer that moves to a new address stops printing. Give the printer a fixed (static) IP address in its own settings, or reserve its address in your router, before you rely on it during service.

The till and printer must be on the same local network. A guest Wi-Fi network is often kept separate from the main one, so keep tills and printers off the guest network.

Why network printers suit kitchens

A network printer does not depend on one tablet staying in Bluetooth range. Every till and client device on the network can send kitchen tickets to it, and tickets still print when the internet is down because the traffic stays on your local network.

Frequently asked questions

What port do network receipt printers use?

Almost all of them use port 9100, which is the default SeroPOS fills in. Only change it if the printer's self-test page or manual lists a different raw printing port.

The printer worked yesterday and stopped today.

The most common cause is that the printer's IP address changed after a restart. Print a new self-test page, compare the address with the one saved in SeroPOS, update it with Edit, and set a fixed address so it does not happen again.

Can I add a network printer without typing the address?

Yes. Tap Auto-detect on the Printer Management screen and SeroPOS scans your network for printers on port 9100. Tap Add on the printer it finds.
