Set up categories in the SeroPOS app

Categories group your products on the POS grid, for example Drinks, Starters and Mains. Open Admin › Categories and tap + Add Category, type the Category name, optionally choose a Parent category to make it a sub-category, and tap Save. Turn on Hide in POS to keep a category in your catalogue without showing it at the till. Sub-categories are listed indented under their parent.

Add a category, optionally under a parent, and choose whether the till shows it.

Steps

  1. Open Categories. Open the drawer, tap Admin, and under Catalog tap Categories (Organize the POS grid).
  2. Add a category. Tap + Add Category and type the Category name as you want it on the POS grid.
  3. Make it a sub-category if needed. In Parent category (optional), leave None for a top-level category or pick a parent.
  4. Hide it from the till if needed. Turn on Hide in POS to keep the category in your catalogue but off the sales grid. A crossed-out eye marks hidden categories in the list.
  5. Save. Tap Save.
  6. Edit or delete. Use the pencil to change a category or the bin to remove it.

Tips

Keep it shallow: one level of sub-categories is usually enough, and deeper nesting makes items harder to find in a rush. Name categories the way staff think about the menu. In QSR Mode you can also give each category its own button style and column count by long-pressing it on the POS screen.

  • Every product needs a category.
  • Hide in POS is handy for seasonal items or ingredients you track but don't sell.
  • Changes reach other tills after the next sync.
