Add your Stripe keys in SeroPOS

To take card payments on orders from your online catalogue, connect your own Stripe account. Open Settings › Setting (/business/settings), click Stripe Setting, enter your Stripe Client id and Client secret and click Update Settings. Once saved, each key shows only its last 4 characters; leave a field blank to keep the saved key, or type a new one to replace it.

Steps

  1. Get your keys from Stripe. Sign in to your Stripe dashboard and open its API keys page. Copy the publishable key and the secret key for live mode.
  2. Open the Business Settings page. In the back office sidebar, open Settings and click Setting. This is the Business Settings page at /business/settings, with its tabs down the left and a search box at the top.
  3. Click the Stripe Setting tab. Stripe Setting is near the bottom of the tab list, after Custom Labels.
  4. Enter the Client id. Paste the publishable key into Client id.
  5. Enter the Client secret. Paste the secret key into Client secret.
  6. Click Update Settings. Click Update Settings at the bottom of the page. Every tab on this page saves together, so finish any other tab you changed before you click.
  7. Check the saved keys. Reopen the tab. Each field shows only the last 4 characters of the saved key, so you can confirm which key is in use without exposing it.
  8. Test an online order. Place a small order from your catalogue with a real card and check it in your Stripe dashboard, then refund it.

Changing or keeping a key

After saving, the fields never show the full keys again. Leaving a field blank when you click Update Settings keeps the key already saved, so you can change other tabs without retyping it. To switch accounts or rotate a key, paste the new key and save.

Payments go straight to your own Stripe account, and Stripe's fees apply. Card payments at the counter use your card terminal instead.

Paytm Setting

The next tab, Paytm Setting, is for businesses in India that take Paytm payments. It has a Merchant ID, Merchant Key, Website, Industry Type and web and mobile channel IDs, or you can use the system's Paytm settings when they are offered. Saved keys there are also shown by their last 4 characters, and a blank field keeps the saved value.

Frequently asked questions

Where do the Stripe payments go?

Into your own Stripe account. SeroPOS uses the keys you enter to charge the card, and Stripe pays out to your bank on its usual schedule, less its fees. Refunds and disputes are handled from your Stripe dashboard.

Why does the field only show four characters?

To keep your keys private, the back office never shows a saved key in full. The last 4 characters let you check which key is saved. Leave the field blank to keep it, or paste a new key to replace it.

Is Stripe used for card payments at the till?

No. The Stripe tab is for online catalogue orders paid by card. At the counter, use one of the integrated card terminals set up in the SeroPOS app, or record card payments taken on a standalone terminal.
