Set up automatic discounts

Discount rules apply a price cut automatically when products are sold. Go to Sell > Discounts (/discount), click Add and fill in Add Discount: Name, products, Brand, Category, Location, Priority, Discount Type (Fixed or Percentage), Discount Amount, Starts At and Ends At. Tick whether it applies in selling price groups and customer groups, keep Is active ticked, and click Save.

Steps

  1. Open Discounts. In the sidebar, open Sell and click Discounts. The list shows Name, Starts At, Ends At, Discount Amount, Priority, Brand, Category, Products, Location and Action.
  2. Add a rule. Click Add to open Add Discount and type a Name such as Summer sale.
  3. Choose what it covers. Select the products in Select Products for Discount, and narrow by Brand or Category if needed. Choose the Location it applies at.
  4. Set the amount. Pick Discount Type, Fixed or Percentage, and enter the Discount Amount.
  5. Set the dates and priority. Enter Starts At and Ends At for a timed promotion. Set Priority: when two rules cover the same item, the higher priority wins.
  6. Choose who gets it. Tick Apply in selling price groups and Apply in customer groups if the discount should also apply to those prices. Leave Is active ticked and click Save.
  7. Turn rules off. Tick rules in the list and click Deactivate Selected to stop them, or Reactivate to turn one back on.

How rules are applied

An active rule applies to matching items sold at its location between its start and end dates. Inactive rules carry an Inactive badge. If more than one rule matches, the one with the higher priority is used.

The list and Add button follow the brand view and create permissions, so give staff those if they should manage discounts.

Frequently asked questions

Can I run a discount for one weekend only?

Yes. Set Starts At to the start of the weekend and Ends At to its end. The rule applies only between those times, and you can leave it in the list for next time or deactivate it.

What if two discounts cover the same product?

Priority decides. A rule with a higher priority carries more weight, so give your main promotion a higher number than any general rule for the same items.
