Steps
- Open Customer Groups. In the sidebar, open Contacts and click Customer Groups, then click Add.
- Name the group. Type a Customer Group Name such as Trade, Staff or VIP.
- Choose how prices change. Set Price calculation type to Percentage or Selling Price Group.
- Enter the percentage. For Percentage, enter the Calculation Percentage (%). A positive number raises the product's selling price and a negative number lowers it, so -10 gives 10% off.
- Or pick a price group. For Selling Price Group, choose the group, such as Wholesale. Customers in this group then pay that group's price on each product.
- Save and assign. Click Save, then edit each customer and choose this Customer Group.
Percentage or price group
A percentage is quickest when one rule fits everything, such as staff at 15% off. A selling price group suits wholesale, where each product has its own trade price. Discount rules can also be limited to customer groups with Apply in customer groups.
Reporting
The Customer Groups Report shows total sales per group, so you can see how much of your business comes from trade or loyalty customers.
Frequently asked questions
How do I give staff a discount automatically?
Create a group called Staff with Price calculation type Percentage and a Calculation Percentage of, say, -15. Put each staff member's customer record in that group. Their sales then price 15% below the normal selling price.
Can a customer be in more than one group?
No. Each customer has one Customer Group. If you need several price levels, create a group for each and move the customer between them as needed.
