Steps
- Open Import Contacts. In the sidebar, open Contacts and click Import Contacts.
- Download the template. Click Download template file to get the spreadsheet with the columns in the right order.
- Fill the required columns. Enter the Contact type (1 = Customer, 2 = Supplier, 3 = Both) and First Name on every row. Business Name is required for suppliers and both.
- Add optional details. Fill Contact ID (blank to auto generate), Tax number, Opening Balance, Pay term with Pay term period (days or months), Credit Limit, Email, Mobile, address columns and Date of birth in Y-m-d format.
- Save as .xls. Keep the columns in the template's order and save the file in .xls format.
- Upload and submit. Under File To Import, choose your file and click Submit.
- Check the results. Open Contacts › Customers or Suppliers and spot-check a few rows, including opening balances on the ledger.
Tips for a clean import
Follow the Instructions table on the page: it lists each column number, its name and whether it is Required or Optional. Don't add or remove columns. Test with five rows first, then import the rest.
- Mobile is required for each contact
- Opening Balance becomes an opening balance due on the ledger
- Leave Contact ID blank unless you are keeping IDs from your old system
Frequently asked questions
Can I import customers from my old POS?
Yes. Export customers from your old system, copy the columns into the SeroPOS template in the order the Instructions table shows, save it as .xls and upload it. Opening balances can come across in the Opening Balance column.
Why did my contact import fail?
Usually a required column is blank, the columns are out of order, or the file isn't .xls. Check Contact type and First Name on every row, Business Name for suppliers, and that dates use the Y-m-d format.
