Read a customer ledger

A customer ledger lists every invoice, payment, return and opening balance for one customer in date order, with a running balance. Open Contacts › Customers, choose Actions › Ledger (or View, then the Ledger tab), and set the Date Range. The Account Summary at the top shows opening balance, total invoice, total paid, advance balance and Balance due, so you can see exactly what they owe.

  1. Open the customer. In Contacts › Customers, click Actions on the customer and choose Ledger. The customer view opens on the Ledger tab.

  6. Email it. Click the envelope button to send the ledger to the customer by email.

Supplier ledgers

Suppliers have the same Ledger tab, with purchases, purchase returns and payments you've made. A contact set up as Both shows sales and purchases in one ledger.

When the balance looks wrong

Check the date range first: the opening balance for the period includes everything before the start date. A payment recorded against the wrong customer, or a return not yet paid out, also shows up here.
