Change a table status

When a table still shows Occupied or Processing after the guests have gone, set it back to Available from Table Selection. Long-press the table, read the Change Table Status message (Are you sure you want to change table status to Available?) and tap Continue. The table turns green straight away and can be seated again. This only changes the table's colour; any held order on it stays in Hold Orders.

How to Free a Table That Still Shows Occupied in SeroPOS0:50 · narrated, with captions
SeroPOS appLive
Live table status on the floor plan: tap a free table to start an order, an occupied one to open it.

Steps

  1. Open Table Selection. On Home tap Dine-in, or tap View Tables in Quick Actions.
  2. Find the table. Look for the table that is still red (Occupied) or amber (Processing). Tap Refresh Status first in case another till has already freed it.
  3. Long-press the table. Press and hold the table until the Change Table Status dialog opens.
  4. Confirm. Tap Continue to set it to Available, or Cancel to leave it as it is.
  5. Tidy up the order. If the table had a held order you no longer need, open Hold Orders and delete it there so it doesn't come back later.

When to use it

Most tables free themselves: paying the order, deleting its held order or tapping Clear Screen in Quick Actions sets the table back to Available. Use Change Table Status for the exceptions, for example when an order was settled on another till, a party walked out, or a bill was printed and then paid elsewhere.

  • It changes the table status only. The held order, if any, is not deleted.
  • The change is saved on the till and sent to the server, so other tills see it after Refresh Status.
  • Long-pressing a table that is already Available does nothing.

Frequently asked questions

Will I lose the order if I free the table?

No. Changing the status only turns the table green. A held order that was on the table stays in Hold Orders, where you can resume it, reprint its KOT or delete it.

Why does a table go back to Occupied after I free it?

Usually because the held order is still open and a server resumed it. Delete the held order in Hold Orders if it is finished, or take payment on it, and the table stays free.
