Route kitchen tickets to printers in SeroPOS

Kitchen order ticket (KOT) routing sends each item to the right printer, for example drinks to the bar and mains to the kitchen. Open Settings › KOT (/kot), click Add, enter a Name, pick the Business Location and Printer, choose the Categories or Products that print there, and click Save. Add one rule per printer.

Steps

  1. Add the printers first. Each kitchen or bar printer must exist under Settings › Receipt Printers before you can route tickets to it.
  2. Open KOT. In the back office sidebar, open Settings and click KOT. The list shows each rule with its location and printer.
  3. Click Add. Click Add to create a routing rule.
  4. Name the rule and pick the location. Enter a Name, such as Bar, and choose the Business Location.
  5. Pick the printer. Choose the Printer that should receive these tickets.
  6. Choose what prints there. Under Categories pick whole categories, such as Drinks, and under Products add single items that don't fit a category.
  7. Save and repeat. Click Save. Add a rule for each printer, such as Kitchen for food and Bar for drinks.
  8. Send a test order. Ring up an order with a drink and a main and send it to the kitchen. Check each ticket prints at the right station.

Planning your routing

Route by category where you can. A Drinks category sent to the bar keeps working when you add new drinks, without editing the rule. Use Products for exceptions, such as a dessert made at the bar.

Tickets print from the POS when an order is sent to the kitchen. In the SeroPOS app, kitchen printers can also be mapped on the device; see the app article on mapping KOTs to printers.

Frequently asked questions

How do I send drinks to the bar printer?

Add the bar printer under Settings › Receipt Printers. Then open Settings › KOT, click Add, name the rule Bar, pick the location and the bar printer, choose your Drinks category and click Save. Drink items then print their tickets at the bar.

Can one item print in two places?

If an item is in a category or product list on two rules for the same location, it can print on both printers. That is useful for an expo printer that gets every ticket. Otherwise keep each category on a single rule.
