Customer group sales report
If you sell to more than one kind of customer, the customer group report adds up sales for each group you've set up, so wholesale, staff, regulars or VIP accounts can be compared over the same dates.
Customer group report in SeroPOS
Sales per group
Each customer group gets one line with its total sales for the period.
Your own groups
Groups are created under Contacts, Customer Groups, and named however suits your business.
Pricing by group
A group can carry a percentage price adjustment or a selling price group, so its customers get their own prices.

Discounts by group
Automatic discount rules can apply only to chosen customer groups, and those sales roll up here.
Drill into contacts
Use the customer and supplier report with the group filter to see the customers behind each total.
What the customer group report shows
Open Reports, then Customer Groups Report, set a location and a date range, and you get the total sale for each customer group. It's a short report by design: one number per group, which makes it easy to see where your revenue comes from. Choose a single location to compare groups within one store.
A sandwich shop that supplies office lunches might find its corporate group is a third of sales. A garden centre with a trade group can see how much of the spring rush came from landscapers rather than walk-in customers. Those are the kind of questions this report answers in a few seconds.
Setting up customer groups
Customer groups are created in the back office under Contacts, Customer Groups. Each group has a name and a price calculation type. Choose Percentage to add or take off a percentage from the selling price, or choose a Selling Price Group to give the group its own price list. Groups can be edited later if your pricing changes.
Then assign each customer to a group on their contact record. Sales to customers without a group, including walk-in sales, don't belong to any group, so the report shows what your named groups bring in. It's easiest to set the group when you first add a customer, but you can change it on their record at any time, and their future sales count towards the new group.
- Wholesale or trade, on a selling price group
- Staff, with a percentage discount
- VIP or regulars
- Corporate or catering accounts
Using the numbers
Once you can see sales by group, pricing decisions get easier. If a discounted group is growing but the profit and loss report shows margins slipping, the group's percentage may be too generous. If a wholesale group is a small share of sales but takes a lot of staff time, it may be worth a minimum order.
Automatic discounts can also be limited to chosen customer groups, with start and end dates. Run the customer group report before and after a promotion to see whether the group responded. Since the discount rules also take a location and a priority, you can run a promotion for one group at one store and measure it the same way.
Related customer reports
The customer group report gives totals. For the customers inside a group, open the Supplier & Customer Report and filter by customer group, which lists each contact's sales, returns and balance due. The sales payment report can also be filtered by customer group, to see how a group pays. Together they go from the group to the person.
For individual products, the product sales report filters by customer, which shows what a particular account buys. Together these cover most of the questions an owner asks about who their customers are and what they're worth. The customer's own page has Ledger, Sales and Payments tabs, for the detail behind any account.
Frequently asked questions
What is a customer group in a POS?
A customer group is a label you give a set of customers, such as wholesale, staff or VIP, usually with its own pricing. In SeroPOS each group has a name and either a percentage adjustment on the selling price or a selling price group. Customers are assigned to a group on their contact record.
How do I compare wholesale and retail sales?
Put your trade customers in a wholesale customer group and run the customer group report for the period. The wholesale line shows their total. Your overall sales on the daily sales report, less that figure, gives you the rest, which includes walk-in sales with no group.
Can a customer be in more than one group?
No. Each customer belongs to one customer group at a time, chosen on their contact record. If you need finer splits, create separate groups for them, for example wholesale and wholesale-catering, and assign each customer to the one that fits.
Can I give a customer group its own prices?
Yes. When you create the group, set the price calculation type to Percentage to adjust the selling price up or down, or to a Selling Price Group to use a separate price list. Automatic discounts can also be limited to chosen customer groups.
Can I see which customers are in a group's total?
The customer group report shows one total per group. To see the customers behind it, open the Supplier & Customer Report and filter by that customer group. It lists each customer with their sales, returns and balance due. Open a customer from there to see their sales.
