Steps
- Open the Business Settings page. In the back office sidebar, open Settings and click Setting. This is the Business Settings page at /business/settings, with its tabs down the left and a search box at the top.
- Click the Sale tab. Sale is the sixth tab in the list on the left.
- Set a default discount and tax. Enter a Default Sale Discount percentage and pick a Default Sale Tax. Both fill in on new sales and can be changed on each sale.
- Choose the commission agent mode. Under Sales Commission Agent pick Disable, the logged-in user, select from users, or select from commission agents.
- Choose how items are added. Under Sales Item Addition Method pick Add item in new row, or Increase item quantity if it already exists.
- Pick an Amount rounding method. Choose None, Round to nearest whole number, or Round to nearest decimal (multiple of 0.05). With 0.05, a total of 2.12 becomes 2.10 and 2.13 becomes 2.15.
- Set price and stock rules. Tick Sales price is minimum selling price to stop staff selling below the product's price. Tick Allow Overselling to sell more than the stock on hand; the shortfall comes off future stock.
- Click Update Settings. Click Update Settings at the bottom of the page. Every tab on this page saves together, so finish any other tab you changed before you click.
Rounding for cash in Canada
Canada no longer has pennies, so many stores round cash totals to the nearest five cents. Round to nearest decimal (multiple of 0.05) does this on the total, using the rule shown under the field.
Round to nearest whole number suits places that price everything in whole units. None keeps totals exactly as calculated.
When to allow overselling
Allow Overselling helps when stock counts lag behind deliveries, for example a kitchen that receives produce before anyone enters the purchase. The sale goes through and the negative quantity is settled when stock arrives. Leave it off if you want the POS to stop a sale that has no stock behind it.
Frequently asked questions
How do I round cash sales to the nearest 5 cents?
Open Settings › Setting, click the Sale tab and set Amount rounding method to Round to nearest decimal (multiple of 0.05). Click Update Settings. New sales then round their total, so 2.11 becomes 2.10 and 2.13 becomes 2.15.
Can staff sell below the listed price?
Only if you let them. Tick Sales price is minimum selling price and the product's default selling price becomes the lowest price that can be entered on the POS or Sales screen. Discounts follow your POS settings, so you can turn those off on the POS tab.
What does Sales Commission Agent do?
It decides who earns commission on a sale. Logged-in user credits whoever rings it up; the select options let staff pick a user or a commission agent on each sale. Commission per person then shows in the sales representative report.
