Steps
- Open the Business Settings page. In the back office sidebar, open Settings and click Setting. This is the Business Settings page at /business/settings, with its tabs down the left and a search box at the top.
- Click the Reward Point tab. Reward Point is the fourteenth tab in the list on the left.
- Turn reward points on. Tick Enable Reward Point and type a Reward Point Display Name, such as Points or Stars. Customers and staff see this name.
- Set how points are earned. Under Earning Points Settings enter Amount spend for unit point. With 10, a customer earns one point for every $10 spent.
- Set earning limits. Enter Minimum order total to earn reward, for example 20, and Maximum points per order if you want a cap. Leave the cap blank for no limit.
- Set how points are redeemed. Under Redeem Points Settings enter Redeem amount per unit point. With 1, each point is worth $1; with 0.50, two points make $1.
- Set redeeming limits. Optionally enter Minimum order total to redeem points, Minimum redeem point and Maximum redeem point per order. Leave any of them blank for no restriction.
- Choose an expiry period. Set Reward Point expiry period in months or years. Expired points come off the customer's balance automatically.
- Click Update Settings. Click Update Settings at the bottom of the page. Every tab on this page saves together, so finish any other tab you changed before you click.
A worked example
Say you set Amount spend for unit point to 10 and Redeem amount per unit point to 0.10. A customer who spends $250 earns 25 points, worth $2.50 off a later order. That is a 1% reward, easy to explain at the counter.
Points are earned on sales to a named customer, so staff need to attach the customer to the sale. Walk-in sales without a customer don't earn points.
Where the setting applies
These rules apply to the whole business. The SeroPOS app also has a Reward Points settings screen of its own; see the app article on reward points settings for what it controls.
Frequently asked questions
How many points does a customer get?
Divide the order total by Amount spend for unit point. With 10, an order of $85 earns 8 points, as long as it meets the Minimum order total to earn reward and stays under any Maximum points per order. The points show on the customer's record.
Do reward points expire?
Only if you set Reward Point expiry period. Choose a number of months or years, and points older than that are deducted from the customer's account automatically. Leave it blank to keep points until they're used.
Can customers redeem points on any sale?
Yes, unless you set limits. Minimum order total to redeem points stops redemptions on small orders, and the minimum and maximum redeem points control how many can be used at once. Leave those blank to allow any amount.
