Connect an SMS service in SeroPOS

SMS receipts, reminders and booking confirmations need an SMS service. Open Settings › Setting (/business/settings), click SMS Settings, pick one of the built-in services from SMS Service and enter its account details, or choose Other to connect any HTTP SMS gateway. Enter a Test Number, click Send test SMS, and click Update Settings once the message arrives.

Steps

  1. Open the Business Settings page. In the back office sidebar, open Settings and click Setting. This is the Business Settings page at /business/settings, with its tabs down the left and a search box at the top.
  2. Click the SMS Settings tab. SMS Settings is the thirteenth tab in the list on the left.
  3. Choose an SMS Service. Open SMS Service and pick a built-in service you already have an account with, or Other for your own gateway.
  4. Enter a built-in service's details. For a built-in service, fill in the account key, secret or token and the sender (From) your SMS account gives you.
  5. Set up a custom gateway with Other. For Other, enter the gateway URL, the Send to parameter name and Message parameter name, and the Request Method your gateway expects.
  6. Add headers and parameters. Fill in up to 3 header keys and values, such as an authorization header, and up to 10 parameter keys and values, such as an API key or sender ID.
  7. Send a test SMS. Type your own mobile number in Test Number and click Send test SMS. Check the phone before you save.
  8. Click Update Settings. Click Update Settings at the bottom of the page. Every tab on this page saves together, so finish any other tab you changed before you click.

Using Other for any gateway

Most SMS gateways accept a web request with the phone number and message as named fields. Your gateway's API guide lists those names: put the phone field's name in Send to parameter name and the text field's name in Message parameter name. Anything else the gateway needs, such as an account key or sender ID, goes in the headers or parameters.

SMS messages are charged by your SMS service, not by SeroPOS. Keep templates short; long messages can be split and billed as more than one SMS.

What uses SMS

New sale and payment messages, payment reminders, booking confirmations and quotations can be sent by SMS. Edit the wording under Notification Templates; the business logo doesn't appear in SMS.

Frequently asked questions

Which SMS service should I use?

Any service that covers your country and offers an HTTP API will work through Other. If you already have an account with one of the built-in services in the SMS Service list, pick it and enter the details. Compare per-message prices for your country before you sign up.

Why doesn't the test SMS arrive?

Check the number includes the country code in the format your gateway expects, then check the parameter names and request method against the gateway's guide. Some services also need the sender name or number to be approved before messages go out.

Can I send booking confirmations by SMS?

Yes. Once an SMS service is set up and tested, tick Send Email/SMS notification to customer when you add a booking. The message uses the New Booking template under Notification Templates, so edit the wording there first.
