Turn on KDS Mode

KDS Mode turns a tablet or computer in the kitchen into a Kitchen Display. On the kitchen device, open Drawer › Settings › KDS Mode and confirm with an Admin or Manager Login ID and Password. On the tills that take orders, turn on Print KOT and Print KDS so held orders are sent to the screen. New tickets arrive with a chime; cooks tap each line to tick it off and tap SERVE to bump the ticket. KDS Mode needs a paid plan.

How to Send Orders to the Kitchen Display with Print KDS in SeroPOS0:51 · narrated, with captions

Steps

  1. Map your KOTs. Set up at least one KOT in Drawer › KOT Mapping. KDS uses the same stations, and Print KDS won't switch on without them.
  2. Turn on Print KOT and Print KDS at the tills. On each ordering till open Drawer › Settings, switch on Print KOT, then Print KDS. If something is missing the app explains it: Enable KOT First, Configure KOT First or Map KOT First.
  3. Turn on KDS Mode in the kitchen. On the kitchen tablet or computer open Drawer › Settings and switch on KDS Mode (Turn this screen into a Kitchen Display).
  4. Approve it. In Enable KDS Mode, enter an Admin or Manager Login ID and Password. The screen switches to the Kitchen Display.
  5. Pick a station. Tap a station chip to show only that station's tickets, or All Stations to see everything.
  6. Cook and bump. Tap each line as it is ready; the ticket shows DONE with a count. Tap SERVE to bump the finished ticket off the board.
  7. Use All Day and Recall. All Day totals how many of each item are still to cook. Recall lists tickets bumped in the last 2 hours, so you can bring one back.
  8. Exit KDS Mode. Double-tap the lock icon, then enter an Admin or Manager Login ID and Password in Exit KDS Mode.

Reading the board

The header counts tickets On time, Attention (8 minutes or more) and Late (15 minutes or more), and each ticket's age badge changes colour to match. New tickets play a double beep and stay highlighted for 10 seconds. The board checks for new orders every 10 seconds and shows Live, Updated a few seconds ago, or Connection problem, retrying if it loses its link. With nothing to cook it reads All caught up.

Limits

KDS Mode runs full screen on a tablet or a Windows or Mac computer; it isn't available on phones. A device can be a kiosk or a kitchen display, not both, and KDS is hidden in Retail Mode. Leave KDS Cleanup running so old tickets don't slow the screen down.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a separate kitchen display app?

No. The kitchen display is built into the SeroPOS app as KDS Mode, so any supported tablet or computer signed in to your business can be the kitchen screen.

Can I have one screen per station?

Yes. Each KDS device can be filtered to one station with the chips at the top, for example Grill on one screen and Bar on another. All Stations shows every ticket.

Is KDS Mode on the Standard plan?

KDS Mode needs a paid plan. If the account is not on one, the app shows Upgrade to Paid Plan when you try to switch it on. Both plans start with a 14-day free trial.
