Steps
- Set up the basics. Create your categories, units and taxes first, so the rows in your file have something to match.
- Download the template. In Admin › Tools tap Download Excel (Product import template). The .xls file opens or downloads through your browser.
- Fill it in. Open the template in Excel or another spreadsheet app and add one row per product, following the column headings. Don't rename or remove columns.
- Save as .xls. Save the file in the same .xls format. The import only accepts .xls files.
- Import it. Back in Admin › Tools tap Import Products (Bulk import from Excel) and choose the file.
- Check the result. Products imported means it worked and the products will appear on the POS. If you see Import failed: check your connection and file format, fix the file and try again.
- Review the products. Open Admin › Products and spot-check a few items, especially prices and taxes.
Tips
Import a handful of rows first to check your columns, then the rest. Keep category, unit and tax names exactly as they appear in Admin. Photos, modifier groups and variations are easiest to finish in the product form after the import.
- Needs internet; the file is processed on the server.
- Staff need Import / Export in Admin Sections of their role.
- The web back office has its own product import, with opening stock.
Frequently asked questions
Can I import a CSV or .xlsx file?

Why did my product import fail?
Usually the file isn't in .xls format, a column was renamed or removed, or the till is offline. Check the file against a fresh template and try again.
