POS for family restaurants

A family restaurant runs three businesses at once: a dining room full of booths, a phone that rings with takeout orders, and a few delivery runs to regulars nearby. SeroPOS gives each its own service type on the same till, and settles big-table bills however the family wants to pay.

What you get

Family restaurants in SeroPOS

Three service types

Dine-in opens the tables, Take Away goes straight to the menu and Delivery asks for the customer's address.

Split any way

Split a family's bill evenly, by item, by percent or by custom amounts, with a different tender on each part.

Breakfast and dinner menus

Create a POS menu for each daypart and switch between them with a pill at the top of the till.

Kitchen tickets

Every order prints to the kitchen, with items routed to the right printer by category or product.

Phone orders by name

Search the customer by name or phone, and their address and order history are already there.

Senior and kids pricing

Use customer groups or automatic discount rules to price a seniors' discount or a kids' special.

Dine-in, takeout and delivery on one screen

The home screen shows a card for each type of service you set up in the back office. Dine-in opens the floor plan or table grid, Take Away opens the menu with a walk-in customer, and Delivery requires a customer with an address before the order starts. Every order carries its service type, so the kitchen ticket, receipt and daily report all say whether it was eaten in or taken home.

Each service type can have its own packing or service charge, fixed or as a percentage, and its own price group per location if your takeout prices differ from dine-in. The Daily Sales Report breaks sales down by order type with tips for each, which shows how much of your business now leaves through the door.

Big tables and split bills

A table of eight with three families at it is a normal Sunday. Tap Split on the payment screen, choose Item Wise, and assign each family's plates to their part of the bill. Or split the total evenly or by custom amounts if they would rather not itemize. Each part takes its own payment method and tip, and the order closes only when every part is paid.

If the grandparents are paying for everyone, take the whole bill on one card. If someone pays cash and the rest goes on a card, the payment screen records both on the same sale. Partial payments are recorded too, with a warning when the amount entered is less than the bill, so nobody leaves a balance by accident.

Menus for each part of the day

Multiple POS Menus let you build a Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner menu from your categories. When there are two or more, pills at the top of the till switch between them, so servers see pancakes in the morning and the dinner specials at night without scrolling past items the kitchen is not cooking.

Kids' meals can be their own category or combo products. A seniors' discount can be a customer group with a percentage off the selling price, or an automatic discount rule for selected items with a start and end date. Each user can also be given a maximum sales discount percentage in the back office, and discount permission can be left off the server role entirely so a manager approves each one.

Takeout and delivery for regulars

When the phone rings, search the customer by name or number from the home screen. Regulars already have their address saved, so a delivery order starts in seconds, and a new caller can be added with their contact details and home address. On the quick-service layout a Delivery toggle adds a delivery charge and a tip field to the order.

SeroPOS records the delivery order, its charge and the driver's tip, and prints the kitchen ticket and the customer's receipt. It does not dispatch or track drivers, which suits restaurants where a staff member runs deliveries nearby. Delivery charges and tips show as their own lines on the Daily Sales Report.

Frequently asked questions

Can I take dine-in, takeout and delivery on the same POS?

Yes. Set up Dine-in, Take Away and Delivery as types of service in the back office, and each appears as a card on the till's home screen. Delivery asks for a customer with an address. Every order is tagged with its type on the ticket, receipt and Daily Sales Report.

How do I split a bill between families at one table?

Use Split on the payment screen and choose Item Wise to assign each family's items to their own part, or pick Even, Percent or Custom. Each part can be paid with a different method and its own tip. The order stays open until all parts are paid.

Can I offer a seniors' discount automatically?

Yes, in two ways. Create a customer group with a percentage off the selling price and add seniors to it, or set up an automatic discount rule for chosen products, categories or brands with dates and a priority. Each user can also be given a maximum sales discount percentage.

Does SeroPOS manage delivery drivers?

No. It records delivery orders with the customer's address, the delivery charge and the tip, and prints the kitchen ticket and receipt. There is no driver dispatch or tracking. If you use Uber Eats, a direct integration is rolling out in Canada as an add-on.

Is SeroPOS a good fit for a restaurant in Canada?

It fits well. Tax groups combine GST and PST, the Daily Sales Report has GST and PST columns, and it connects to Moneris and Global Payments terminals. Prices are: Standard is $30 a month and Pro is $50, each with a 14-day free trial.
