Dine-in, take away and delivery from one home screen
Every order starts by answering one question: is it for here, to go, or for delivery? SeroPOS puts that choice on the home screen as large colour-coded cards.
Service modes in SeroPOS
Colour-coded cards
Dine-in is orange, Take Away is blue and Delivery is green, so staff pick the right one without reading.
Your own service types
Add types such as Catering, Drive-Thru or Curbside in the back office, and each becomes its own card.
Price group per type
Each type of service can use its own selling price group per location, so delivery can be priced differently.
Packing and service charges
Add a fixed or percentage packing or service charge to a type, and it applies to every order of that type.
Delivery needs an address
Delivery orders ask for a customer with an address, and offer Edit Customer if one is missing.
Reported by type
The daily sales report shows orders and tips for dine-in, take away and delivery separately.
Starting an order from the home screen
The SeroPOS home screen shows one card for each type of service you have set up. Tap Dine-in and the till uses the walk-in customer and opens the floor plan, or a table grid if you have not drawn a plan yet. Tap Take Away and the till goes straight to the sale screen with the walk-in customer. The choice is made once, at the start, and follows the order through to payment.
Delivery is green and works a little differently. It needs a customer with an address, so the cashier searches for or adds the customer first. If that customer has no address, the till shows 'Please add customer address first.' and opens Edit Customer. Phones show the same choice as buttons under Start an order.
Setting up types of service
Types of service live in the web back office under Types of Service, and in the app's Admin hub. Each has a name and description, and the back office can add up to four custom fields recorded on the sale, such as a pickup time or a car description. Dine-in, Takeaway and Delivery are common, but you can add Catering, Drive-Thru, Curbside or whatever your business runs.
Each type can set a selling price group for each location, so a delivery menu can be priced higher to cover platform or packaging costs while dine-in uses your standard prices. Each type can also add a packing or service charge, either a fixed amount or a percentage of the order, which SeroPOS adds automatically.
- Name and description
- Selling price group per location
- Packing or service charge, fixed or percentage
- Up to four custom fields on the sale
Service types on held orders and tickets
The service type travels with the order. Held Sales cards carry a service chip, and the list can be filtered by Dine-in, Takeaway or Walk-in, so the counter can find every waiting takeout order in one tap. The type chosen at the start also decides which price group and packing charge apply to the order.
In QSR Mode, the Delivery toggle in the cart switches an order between Take Away and Delivery and adds the delivery charge and a tip field. That lets a quick-service counter take phone delivery orders without leaving the grid, while the order still lands under the right type of service in reports.
Reporting by type of service
The daily sales report in the app has an Orders by Type section showing dine-in, take away and delivery orders, with tips for each. The back office version of the report has the same breakdown, and the All Sales list shows the type of service on every sale. That makes it easy to see how much of the day came from delivery and whether a takeout promotion worked.
Packing and service charges are reported apart from item sales, so container fees do not inflate your food sales figures. Shops that do not use service types at all can turn on Retail Mode, which hides the cards and replaces them with a single New Sale button, so every sale starts the same way.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add a new type of service in SeroPOS?
In the web back office, go to Types of Service and add one with a name, an optional description, a price group for each location and any packing charge. It appears as a new card on the till's home screen after the next sync. You can also manage types from the Admin hub in the app.
Can takeout and delivery have different prices from dine-in?
Yes. Each type of service can use a selling price group for each location. Set up a price group with your delivery prices, choose it on the Delivery type, and orders started as delivery use those prices automatically, while dine-in keeps your standard prices.
Why does Delivery ask me to add an address?
Delivery orders need somewhere to go, so the till requires a customer with an address. If the selected customer has none, SeroPOS shows a message and opens Edit Customer so you can add it before taking the order. The address is saved for next time.
Can I add a container or packing fee to takeout orders?
Yes. Give the Take Away type a packing charge, either a fixed amount or a percentage of the order. SeroPOS adds it to every takeout order, prints it on the receipt and reports it separately from food sales in the daily sales report.
Can I hide the service type cards for a shop?
Yes. Turn on Retail Mode in Settings. The dine-in, take away and delivery cards are replaced with a single New Sale button, and tables and kitchen tickets are hidden too. Turn it off at any time to bring the cards back.
